  • My debts and funeral expenses are to be paid.
  • I give my three closes etc called the Coppice Close at Bernard Yate in the Liberties of Eynsham, bought from James Quartermaine, to my now wife Jane for life.
    After her decease I give [the property] to my two daughters Sarah and Alice Burson and their heirs etc forever.
  • I give my now dwelling-house and leasehold estate etc in Cogges, bought from Mr William Blake deceased, to my wife for life.
    After her decease I give [the property] to my son William Burson for life.
    After William's decease I give [the property] to my son George Burson for life.
    After George's decease I give [the property] to my son John Burson during the life of my son Joseph Burson.
  • I give my wife my bed that I now lie on, with all that belongs to it.
  • I give my daughter Alice Burson my dresser and shelves in the parlour, six pewter dishes, twelve pewter plates, the round table and six matted- bottom chairs, the elbow chair in the parlour, my smallest brewing kettle, my biggest brass pot, the feather-bed on which she now lies with all that belongs to it, one chest, one coffer, three brass candlesticks, one pair of brass andirons, fire-shovel and tongs, one dozen flaxen napkins, two flaxen tablecloths and four pairs of sheets.

  • I give my granddaughter Jane Hanks £5, to be paid within three years after my decease.
  • I give my daughter-in-law Mary Burson, my son-in-law Timothy Harper and my daughter Anne Roach 1s apiece.

In the name of God Amen I Richard Burson of the Parish of Coggs in
the County of Oxon Yeoman though Weak of Body yet of Sound and Perfect Memory (Praise
be therefore Given to the Almighty) Do Make and Ordaine this my present Last Will and Testament in
manner and forme following, that is to say, First I commend My Soul unto Almighty God, Hopeing
through the Meritts, Death and Passion of my Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full &
free Pardon of and for All my Sins and Transgressions and to Inherite Everlasting life And my Body
I committ to the Earth to be decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executor herein after Named
And As for and concerning the Disposeing of All my Temporall Estate wherewith I am Blest I Give
and dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I Will that All my Debts and Funerall Expences shall
be paid and discharged Item As for and concerning My Three Closes at Bernard Yate in the
Liberties of Ensham in the said County of Oxon with the apurtenances which I bought of James
Quartermaine called the Coppice Close I Give and Bequeath the same (immediately after my decease)
unto my now Wife Jane and her Assignes for and dureing the terme of her Naturall life And from
and Immediately after my said now Wife Jane’s Decease I Give and Bequeath the same unto my two
daughters Sarah and Alice Burson and their Heires and Assignes for ever. Item I Give and Bequeath
unto my said now wife Jane and her Assignes All my now Dwelling House and Leasehold Estate in Coggs
aforesaid (which I bought of Mr William Blake deceased) with all the Appurtenances for and dureing her Life and
from and after the decease of my said wife I give and Bequeath the same unto my son William
Burson and his Assignes dureing his life And from and after the decease of my said son William Burson
then I Give and Bequeath the same unto my son George Burson and his Assignes dureing his Life And
from and after the decease of my said son George Burson I Give and Bequeath the same unto my
son John Burson and his Assignes dureing the life of my son Joseph Burson Item I Give & Bequeath
unto my said Wife Jane My Bed that I now lye on with all that belongs to it Item I Give and Bequeath
unto my said daughter Alice Burson my Dresser and Shelves in the Parlour Six Pewter Dishes, Twelve
Pewter Plates the round Table and Six Matted bottome Chaires and the Elbow Chaire in the Parlour, my
smallest Brewing Kettle and my biggest brasse Pott and the Feather Bed and All that belongs to it on wch my
sd daughter Alice now lyes, One Chest & also One Coffer and three brasse Candlesticks One pair of Brasse

Item I Give & bequeath to my son Joseph Burson One Shilling Item I Give and bequeath to my Grandaughter Jane
Hanks Five Pounds to be paid her within Three Yeares next after my decease Item I give & bequeath to my
daughter in law Mary Burson and to my son in law Timothy Harper and to my daughter Anne Roach to
each of them One Shilling apeice Item I Give & bequeath unto my son John Burson Five Shillings Also
to my son in law James Shailor One Shilling Item I Give & bequeath to my daughter Rachell Knighton
Five shillings All the Residue of my Goods Chattells & Personall Estate whatsoever (My Debts Funerall Expenses
& Leagacies being first paid & discharged) I Give & bequeath unto my loving son William Burson my full & sole
