  • My debts and funeral expenses are to be paid.
  • I give my son John Gateman one feather bed, bolster, bedstead and blankets, one pair of sheets, the long table in the parlour, a large chest and two pewter dishes.
  • I give my daughter Mary Sheers one hanging press, a court cupboard, bacon rack, dressers and shelves.
  • I give £80, to be raised out of my copyhold estates at Fencott and Murcott (which I have today surrendered into the hands of the Lords of the Manor of Islip, Fencott and Murcott according to custom for this purpose) to my neighbour William Brooks of Fencott In Trust as follows:
    • To invest the &80 and pay the interest to my son John for life.
    • After John's decease to divide the principal between three of my grandchildren:
      • £20 to my grandson Nathaniel Sheers.
      • £30 each to my two grandchildren Henry and Elizabeth Taylor.
  • I give my daughter Ann Taylor £20 and all the residue of my household goods, implements of household and husbandry, ready money, bond debts, bill debts and wearing apparel.
    I also give her the Deads Year [aka Executor's Year] of my above copyhold estates, enjoying their profits, and make her my sole Executrix, charged with the payment of all interest that I owe to anyone until the end of her year.

In the name of God amen I John Gateman of Fencot in the County
of Oxford Yeoman being weak of Body but of sound and perfect mind &
memory thanks be therefore given to Almighty God do make this my last
Will and Testament in manner and form following First I will and
desire tha all my Just Debts and Funeral Expences be paid & Discharged
in due time I give unto my son John Gateman one Feather Bed Bolster Bedstead
and Blanketts one pair of Sheets the long Table in the Parlor a large Chest
and Two Pewter Dishes I give unto my Daughter Mary Sheers one Hanging
press a Court Cupboard Bacon Rack Dressers and Shelves I give unto my
Neighbour William Brooks of Fencot aforesaid the sum of Eighty Pounds
of Lawfull money of great Britain in Trust and for the Uses following
(That is to say) that he shall put the said sum of Eighty Pounds out to
Interest to the best advantage which said Interest I give unto my said
Son John for and during his natural life and after his Decease I
give the said Principal Sum of Eighty Pounds unto three of my
grand Children (that is to say) unto my Grandson Nathaniel Sheers the
sum of Twenty Pounds part of the said Eighty and unto my two Grand
Children Henry and Elizabeth Taylor the sum of Thirty Pounds a
piece each being the Remainder of the said Eighty pounds Which
said sum of Eighty Pounds I will and desire may be raised out
of my Copyhold Estates lying at Fencot and Murcot in the County
of Oxford aforesaid within Twelve months next after my decease
for which purpose I have this day surrendered my said Copyhold Estates
into the hands of the Lords of the Manor of Islip Fencot & Murcot
according to Custome for the Uses above mentioned Subject nevertheless
to the payment of all such Sums and Interest as they shall stand
Charged with to any person or Persons at the time of my Decease
I also give unto my Daughter Ann Taylor the sum of Twenty Pounds with all the Rest and Residue of
my Houshold Goods and Implements of Houshold & Husbandry of all
sorts Ready Money Bond Debts Bill Debs (sic) & Wearing Apparel of all
sorts I also give unto her the Deads Year of my said Copyhold
Estates aforesaid for which purpose I do hereby constitute make
and Ordain her my said Daughter Ann my only Sole Executrix of
this my present last will and Testament whom I charge with the pay=
ment of all Interest that I shall owe to any person or persons until the
End of the Year of her Executriship and I also desire she may enjoy
the proffits of my s’d Copyhold Estates one year after my Decease In Witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty
Third day of December In the Year of our Lord 1758
