  • [As for] the rest of my goods, I give half to Isabell my wife and the other half to my children, John Margaret Agnes Jone and Alice, equally to be divided amongst them by my overseers when they [reach] the following ages: John to have all his said portions gifts and bequests at age 18, and my four daughters Margaret Agnes Jone and Alice to have their said portions [etc] at age 20, or at the day of their marriage [if sooner].
  • And in the meantime I will that my overseers shall within a month of my burial take my five children into their custody and keeping, as well as all their moiety of goods and gifts and bequests, safely keeping the same for them, and to see my said children well and honestly brought up with all things necessary until they shall be of the age aforesaid and then well and truly to deliver to each of them all his or their portions gifts & bequests as is aforesaid.
  • I will that if any of my 5 children [die] before they reach the stated age, then the longer livers to have the others bequests and gifts amongst them. And if all my children shall [die] before they reach the stated age, then I will my overseers to dispose all their gifts portions and bequests at their discretion.
  • I ordain Isabell my said wife and my said five children ... the executors of this my will, to see me honestly buried, my debts paid, this my will proved and to order? & dispose for my soul at their discretion.
  • I ordain John Androwes my father-in-law of Kidlington and Richard Belcher my brother aforesaid the overseers of this my will ... and each to have for his labour 20/- sterling.
  • Furthermore if my said five children, coexecutors with my said wife, [are too young] to execute this my will, then my overseers shall execute and minister in their behalf ....

In dei no'i'e amen the xx'ti daye of Auguste In the yere of our Lorde god 1548 I Edmund
Belcher of lytle Tew w'thin the paryshe of Mychell Tew in the countie of Oxford husbandman
beynge of whole mynde and p'fet remembrannce make my laste wyll and Testamente in
man'er and forme folowing ffyrste I bequeth my sowle to allmyghtie god and my
bodie to be buryed in the churche yarde of Mychell Tew aforesaid Itm I gyve to the

amongs them by my within undernamed overseers when they shalbe of the age

the same for them and to see my said chyldren well and honestly __red & brought
upp w' all things necessarye untill they shall be of the age aforesaid and then
well and trewly to delyver to everye of them all his or their porcons gyfts &
bequests as is aforesaid Itm I wyll that if anye of my said v chyldren fortune
to dep'te this transitorie lyffe before they shalbe of thage aforenamed that then the
longer lyvers or lyver of them to have thothers bequests and gyfts amongs them
And if it happen as god forbyd that all my said fyve chyldren shall deceasse
this presente lyffe before they shalbe of the age as is aforesaid That then I wyll my
within undernamed overseers to dispose all their gyfts porcons and bequests
after their discretions Itm I doo ordeyne and make Isabell my said wyffe and
my said fyve chyldren that is to saye John Belcher Margarete Agnes
Jone and Alice the executors of this my laste wyll & Testamente to see me
honestly buryed my detts payed this my laste wyll proved and to ordre? &

said John Androwes my father in lawe of Kydlyngton and Richard Belcher

and trewly to be p'formed and fullfylled and ev'y of them to have for his
labour xxs sterlynge ffurthermore forasmuche as my said fyve chyldren coexecutors
with my said wyffe be not of sufficiente discretion for lack of age to execute
this my laste wyll and Testamente I wyll that my abovenamed overseers
shall execute and minister in their behalffe in and upon all & sing'ler maters?
