  • I give Christofer Brutnell, son of my daughter Elizabeth deceased and my son-in-law Bennitt Brutnell, £30 to be invested for him within one year after my decease and paid to him, together with all interest, when he reaches age 21.
    If he dies before that age my Executor shall pay half of the £30 to the children of my daughter Sarra Wood equally divided, and the other half to his father Bennitt Brutnell.
  • I give the children of my daughter Sarra Wood £85, to be equally divided between them within six months after the decease of their mother.
    The £85 shall be invested by my Executrix according to Statute, and the whole annual interest is to be paid to my daughter Sarra until her children reach age 21.
    As the children reach that age my Executor shall pay them £10 apiece out of the £85, and pay Sarra the annual interest of the residue during her life, and after her decease shall pay all the residue of the £85 to her surviving children equally divided.
  • I give my wife Margeritt the use and occupation of the house where I now dwell and the profits of all my lands for life, with all the crop of corn now growing, she paying my daughter Sarra half a quarter of wheat within half a year after my decease.
  • After the decease of my wife I give all my houses and lands etc to Mathew Wood, the eldest son of my daughter Sarra, and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give my daughter Sarra and my wife Margritt all my best household linen, woollen, bedding, brass and pewter equally divided between them.
  • All the building timber which I have bought shall remain towards the building or repair of the house where I now dwell, for those that do the work.
  • All the residue of my goods I give to my son-in-law Bennitt Brutnell whom I make sole Executor, to pay my debts, legacies and funeral expenses

In the name of God Amen The three
and twentieth daie of June in the yeare of our lord God one thousand sixe hundred
and thirty I John Allen of StokenChurch in the Countie of Oxon Carpenter
beinge sicke of bodie but of good and perfect remembrance (laud and praise be given
to Allmightie God therefore) doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament as
followeth viz't ffirst and principally I yeeld up my soule into the hands of my mercifull
Creator beinge constantly assured of the free pardon of all my Sinnes by the onely merritts of
Jesus Christ his deare sonne our lord and only Saviour And my bodie to the earth from
whence it came And as touchinge such my worldly estate as the lord in mercy hath lent
mee I doe dispose thereof as followeth ffirst I give and bequeath unto Christofer Brutnell
the sonne of my daughter Elizabeth deceased and of Bennitt Brutnell my sonne in
lawe the som'e of thirtie pounds of lawfull money of England to bee putt foorth to the
best use for him within one yeare next after my decease and to bee paid unto the said
Christofer together with all the use thereof cominge by my Executor when the said Christopher
shalbe of the age of one and Twentie yeares And if he shall happen to decease before
he attaine to the said age Then my will is that my Executor shall pay the one halfe of the said
Thirtie pounds unto the Children of my daughter Sarra Wood to be equallie devided
betweene them And the other halfe parte of the said Thirtie pounds with the profitts
thereof to bee and remayne unto his ffather Bennitt Brutnell my sonne in lawe Itm
I give and bequeath unto the Children of my daughter Sarra Wood the somme of
fowerscore & five pounds of like lawfull money to bee paid and equallie devided betweene the
Children of my said daughter Sarra within sixe months next after the decease of theire
Mother my said daughter Sarra And my will is that the same fowerscore and five
pounds shalbe keept and put foorth by my Executrix to the best use accordinge to the statute
and the whole use thereof cominge to bee yearely paid unto my said daughter Sarra &
her assignes untill her said Children shall come to lawfull age of one and twenty yeares
And my will is that as the said Children shall come to theire said age my Executor shall pay
them ten pounds apeece out of the same fowerscore and five pounds and shall then give
and paie unto the said Sarra my daughter theire Mother the whole use yearely of the
residue of the said fowerscore and five pounds duringe the whole tearme of the naturall
life of the said Sarra, and after her decease shall likewise paie all the residue of the said
fowerscore and five pounds unto the said Children of my said daughter Sarra equallie
to bee devided betweene them and the Survivors of them Item I give and bequeath unto
Margeritt my wife the whole use and occupacon of my house wherein I now dwell with
the profitts of all the lands I have, for and duringe the tearme of her naturall life w'th
all the Cropp of Corne now thereupon growinge or beine on the same shee the said
Margaritt giveinge or payinge unto my said daughter Sarra one halfe quarter of
wheate within halfe yeare next after my decease Item after the decease of the said Margeritt my
Wife I give and bequeath all my foresaid houses and lands whatsoever with theire and every
of theire appurten'ces unto Mathew Wood the eldest sonne of my foresaid daughter Sarra
and to his heires and assignes for ever Itm I give unto my said daughter Sarra and
Margritt my wife all my best houshold of linnen, woollen, beddinge, brasse and pewter
to bee equallie devided betweene them Alsoe my will is that all the buildinge tymber w'ch
I have bought and now provided shall remaine for and towards the buildinge or repayringe
of the house wherein I now dwell for them that wilbe at the the [sic] charges of the doinge thereof

All the residue of my goods whatsoever unbequeathed I give and bequeath unto Bennitt
Brutnell my sonne in lawe whom I doe make and ordaine sole Executor of this my last will &
Testament to pay my debts and legacies, and discharge my funerall expences In witnes
whereof I have hereunto putt my hand and seale the daie and yeare first above written 1630
