  • I give to Mrs Mary Cooke, daughter of my dear husband Sir Edward Bathurst deceased, £10, and to his four other daughters Mrs Gibbs, Mrs Orchard, Mrs Kingston and Mrs Willett 40s each to buy rings.

  • I give my good friend Mrs Mary Sayer £20.

  • I give her son Mr John Sayer my silver tankard.
  • I give all my other little parcels of plate to my good friend Mrs Margaret Lloyd, also my books, my black satin petticoat and my linen (except wearing linen).
  • I give my good friend Mrs Harford my black satin mantle and the new screen and table in my chamber.
  • I also give Mrs Marya Bathurst my flowered satin petticoat, my black gauze petticoat, my muff, my a la mode scarf and two pairs of holland sleeves.
  • I also give my good friend Sir Edward Bathurst my wedding ring.
  • I give my good friend Mr John Cary of Woodstock £20, and appoint him sole Executor ... I revoke all former wills.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN the
Fifteenth day of January In the five and Thirtieth year of the raigne of our
Sovereigne Lord King Charles the second and in the yeare of our Lord One
Thousand six hundred eighty three I Dame Dorothy Bathurst now of
Woodstock in the County of Oxon Widdow being sensible of the uncertaine
and fraile estate of mans life and of my owne condicion being under some
little distemper of body at this present though blessed be God I am of sound minde
and memory and of perfect knowledge and understanding Doe make this my last
will and testament in manner following In the first place I humbly recommend
my soule into the hands of my ever blessed God Assuredly trusting in his free grace
and mercy in and through my gratious Saviour Jesus Christ to obtaine remission of
all my sinns and finde everlasting happynesse and salvation my body I committ
to the earth to be buried in a decent manner at the parish church of Spelsbury
according to the discretion of my Executor And for the disposall of my estate
I desire it may be as followeth First I give to Sir Edward Bathurst the summe
of Tenne pounds And I give to Mrs Maria Bathurst Tenne pounds and I
give to Mrs. Mary Cooke the daughter of my deare husband Sir Edward
Bathurst deceased Tenne pound and I give to the foure other Daughters of my
said deare husband which are Mrs. Gibbs Mrs.Orchard Mrs. Kingston and
Mrs. Willett to each of them forty shillings to buy them Rings And I give to
Mr. Thomas Cooke the sonne of the said Mrs. Mary Cooke the summe of
five pounds And I give to my good friend Mrs. Mary Sayer Twenty pounds
And I give to my brother Mr. Thomas Nash the summe of Thirty pounds
And I give to Mrs. Margarett Lloyd and to Mrs. Katherine Terrell to each of
them forty shillings to buy them rings And I give to my Couzen Mrs. Mary
Dipple the summe of five pounds And I give to the poore of Lechlade the summe


of five pounds and to the minister there Forty shillings I give to the poore of
Woodstock where I now live forty shillings and to the poore of Spelsbury where
I desire to bee buried fifty shillings And I doe appoint my Executor hereafter
named to bestow upon my funerall expences the summe of Twenty pounds I give to
Mr. Edward Loveden and his wife to each of them twenty shillings to buy them
rings And I give to my servant Elizabeth Lovesey foure pounds and my wearing
Apparrell linnen and woollen that I shall not otherwise dispose of by this my will
And I doe further give to my good friend Mrs. Sayer my silver Cup and Cover
that is now in her Custody and my greate Bible And I give to Mr. John
Sayer her sonne my silver Tankard All my other little parcells of plate I give
to my good friend Mrs. Margaret Lloyd and my bookes and my blacke
satten petticoate and my Linnen that is not wearing Linnen I give to my good
friend Mrs. Harford my black satten mantle and the new Screene and Table
in my Chamber I further give to Mrs. Marya Bathurst my flowered satten
petticoate and my black gawes petticote and my muffe and my allamode
scarfe and Two paire of holland sleeves I further give to my good friend
Sir Edward Bathurst my wedding ring And lastly I give to my good friend
Mr. John Cary of Woodstock the summe of Twenty pounds And I doe ordaine
constitute and appoint the said Mr John Cary the sole Executor of this my last
Will and Testament I doe hereby revoke all other and former wills by mee

I further desire as a Codicill to my will to add this following I give to Mr Edward
Bathurst of Trinitie Colledge in Cambridge the summe of forty shillings to
