  • I give my son Thomas Baughan:
    • My newly erected Freehold Messuage or Tenement called The Unicorn Inn in Great Rollright, with the yard and garden, outhouses, barn, stable etc.
    • My two Freehold Closes [adjoining The Unicorn] now in the occupation of John Liddington.
    • My Freehold [house etc adjoining The Unicorn] now in the occupation of Richard Williams.
    • My four Freehold Cottages in Great Rollright with the gardens etc now in the occupation of Richard Hall, Thomas Hall, John Jones and William Walker, lately purchased by me from the Poor Law Commissioners.
    • To hold [all the properties] to him and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give my son Henry Baughan:
    • My newly erected Freehold Messuage or Tenement with the out-offices, garden, orchard etc in Great Rollright now in my own occupation.
    • My Freehold Messuage and Tenement with the bakehouse, garden, orchard etc in Great Rollright now in the occupation of Charles Williams, baker.
    • My Freehold Cottage with the garden etc in Great Rollright late the property of William Shurborne deceased and now in the occupation of John Walker.
    • Those five Freehold cottages etc in Great Rollright now in the occupation of Josiah Bermingham, James Titmas, William Syphas, Edward Walker and William Wheeler.
    • My two Freehold Cottages and Premises with the gardens etc in Great Rollright adjoining the public highway leading to Traitors Ford now in the occupation of Richard Rawlings and Isaac Coling.
    • To hold [all the properties] to him and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give my son Richard Baughan £150 and if he should die in my lifetime then I give the £150 equally amongst his children.
  • I give £150 to my daughter Mary Leonard for her own use and benefit and if she should die in my lifetime then I give the £150 equally amongst her children.
  • I also give my daughter Mary Leonard the bedstead in my own bedroom and the furniture belonging to [it] for her own use and benefit
  • I give £150 to my grandson William Attwood (son of my late daughter Martha Attwood) for his own use and benefit
  • I give £150 to my granddaughter Elizabeth Attwood (daughter of Martha) for her own use and benefit.
  • I give all my household goods, plate, linen, china and furniture and also all the residue of my money Personal Estate and Effects etc not already disposed of, subject to the payment of my debts etc, to my son Henry Baughan his executors etc.
  • I appoint my son Henry Baughan sole Executor ... revoking all other wills ...

Executor's Oath
  • You swear that the contents of the annexed Affidavit, which you have signed, are true to the best of your knowledge and belief.
  • That the annexed Paper Writing contains the true original Will of William Baughan of Great Rollright yeoman deceased, as far as you know or believe.
  • That you are the Executor therein named.
  • That you will duly execute and perform the same, and pay his debts and legacies, as far as his Goods etc will thereto extend, and the Law bind you
  • That you will make, or cause to be made, a true Inventory of all [his] goods etc, which have or shall come to your hands, and exhibit it into the Registry of the Archdeacon of Oxford
  • That you will pass a just and true account of your Executorship, when lawfully required.
  • You also swear that the Goods etc of the deceased are under the value of £100.
At Chipping Norton on 13 Sept 1843 the above Oath was administered to Henry Baughan the sole Executor named in the annexed will of William Baughan.

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Baughan of Great Rollright in the County of Oxford Yeoman I give devise and appoint unto my son Thomas Baughan and his heirs all that my newly erected Freehold Messuage or Tenement called or known by the name of the Unicorn Inn situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid, with the Yard and Garden Outhouses Barn Stable and appurtenences thereunto belonging And all those my two several Freehold Closes or inclosed grounds near to or adjoining and occupied with the said Messuage or tenement and which said Messuage or tenement closes and Premises are now in the occupation of John Liddington And also all that my Freehold Messuage or tenement with the appurtenances situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid near to or adjoining the aforesaid Messuage and Premises and now in the occupation of Richard Williams And also all those my Four Freehold Cottages or Tenements situated in Great Rollright aforesaid with the Gardens and appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging and now in the several occupations of Richard Hall Thomas Hall John Jones and William Walker lately purchased by me of the Poor Law Commissioners To Hold the said Messuages or tenements Closes Cottages or Tenements and Premises with their respective appurtenances unto and to the use of my said son Thomas Baughan his heirs and assigns for ever I give devise and appoint unto my son Henry Baughan and his heirs all that my newly erected Freehold Messuage or tenement with the outoffices garden orchard and appurtenances thereunto belonging thereto or occupied therewith situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid and now in my own occupation And also all that my Freehold Messuage and Tenement with the Bakehouse Garden orchard and appurtenances thereunto belonging situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid and now in the occupation of Charles Williams Baker and also all that my Freehold Cottage or tenement with the garden and appurtenances thereunto belonging situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid late the property of William Shurborne deceased and now in the occupation of John Walker and also all those Five Freehold cottages or tenements with their respective appurtenances situated and being in Great Rollright aforesaid and now in the several occupations of Josiah Bermingham James Titmas William Syphas Edward Walker and William Wheeler And also all those my two Freehold Cottages or Tenements and Premises with the gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging situated in Great Rollright aforesaid and near to or adjoining the Public Road or Highway leading to Traitors Ford now in the several occupations of Richard Rawlings and Isaac Coling To Hold the said Messuages or Tenements Cottages or tenements Hereditaments and Premises with their respective appurtenances so devised to my said son Henry unto and to the use of my said son Henry Baughan his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Baughan the sum of one Hundred and Fifty Pounds sterling and in case he should die in my lifetime then I give and bequeath the said sum of one Hundred and fifty pounds sterling unto and equally amongst his children if more than one and if but one child to such only child I give and bequeath the sum of one Hundred and Fifty Pounds sterling to my daughter Mary Leonard to and for her own use and benefit and in case she should die in my lifetime then I give and bequeath the said sum of one Hundred and fifty Pounds sterling unto and equally amongst her children if more than one and if but one child to such only child I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Leonard the Bedstead in my own Bedroom and the Furniture belonging to the said Bedstead to and for her own use and benefit I give and bequeath the sum of one Hundred and fifty Pounds sterling to my Grandson William Attwood (son of my late daughter Martha Attwood) to and for his own use and benefit I give and bequeath the sum of one hundred Pounds sterling to my granddaughter Elizabeth Attwood daughter of my said late daughter Martha Attwood to and for her own use and benefit I give and bequeath all my Household Goods Plate Linen China and furniture and also all the rest residue and remainder of my money Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever not herein before disposed of after and subject to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses unto my said son Henry Baughan his executors administrators and assigns And I hereby appoint my said son Henry Baughan sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said William Baughan the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand to each sheet thereof this twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and forty.

Executor's Oath

You swear that the contents of the Affidavit hereunto annexed, and to which you have subscribed your name, are true, to the best of your knowledge and belief; and that the Paper Writing, also hereunto annexed, doth in it contain the true original last Will and Testament of William Baughan late of Great Rollright in the County of Oxford Yeoman deceased, as far as you know or believe; that you are the Executor therein named; that you will duly execute and perform the same, and pay his Debts and Legacies, as far forth as his Goods,Chattels, and Credits will thereto extend, and the Law bind you; and that you will make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Chattels , and Credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to your Hands, Possession, or Knowledge, and exhibit the same into the Registry of the Archdeacon of Oxford and pass a just and true account of your Executorship thereupon, when thereto lawfully required; You also swear that the Goods,Chattels, and Credits of the said deceased are under the value of one hundred Pounds.

At Chipping Norton in the County of Oxford on the thirteenth day of September 1843 the Oath above written was administered to Henry Baughan the sole Executor named in the last Will and Testament of the above named William Baughan hereunto annexed, and by them duly taken.
