  • My debts, funeral and Testamentary expenses are to be paid first.
  • I give all my freehold lands etc at Over Horsepath and Cowley or elsewhere to my nephew John Haynes of Littlemore, yeoman, and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give the following to my niece Ann Small, wife of Joseph Small of Littlemore, for life, for her sole benefit, not subject to the control, debts etc of any husband, her receipt alone for the rents of the premises being a good discharge to the then tenants:
    • My leasehold messuage, half yard land, commons, edifices and buildings etc in Garsington, held under the Dean and Chapter of Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford, for the residue of the lease.
      But that will only be after the death of Alice Pym, formerly Alice Walter, the present tenant for life under the will of William Harper of Garsington, yeoman, under which will I am then entitled to inherit it.
    • All my household goods, plate, linen, china and furniture.
    • All my wearing apparel.
    • £100 in money.
  • After Ann Small's decease I give [the property and household goods] equally divided beween her daughters Elizabeth and Sarah Small and their Executors etc as tenants in common.
    If either dies without issue in Ann's lifetime I give [all of it] after Ann's death to the survivor and her Executors etc absolutely.
  • I give the following money legacies, to be paid within six months after my decease:
    • The following are the children of Edward and Elizabeth Haynes:
      • £50 each to my nephews James Haynes and William Haynes.
      • £100 to my nephew Lock Haynes One hundred pounds
      • £100 to my niece Sarah Poney, wife of William Poney of Caversham, labourer.
      • £50 to my niece Elizabeth Bisley, wife of William Bisley of Cowley
    • £50 to my nephew Henry Norris.
    • £200 to my nephew William Norris.
    • £50 to my niece Elizabeth Commins, wife of Richard Commins of Headington.
    • £200 to my niece Sarah Cooper, widow.
    • £50 to my niece Martha, wife of Mr Crawford of Horspath.
    • £50 to my niece Jane, daughter of Henry and Jane Norris.
    • £100 each to my nephews William, John, James and Thomas Haynes, sons of Thomas and Ann Haynes of Marston.
    • £20 to my former servant Mary Bisley, wife of James Bisley of Cowley.
      If she dies in my lifetime I give the £20 to Ann Small.
  • Subject to the payment of my debts, legacies and funeral expenses, I give all the residue of my money, securities for money, farming stock and implements in husbandry, and all my other personal estate and effects to my nephew John Haynes and his Executors etc absolutely, and appoint him sole Executor ... revoking all fomer wills.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Sarah Blay of Littlemoore in the County
of Oxford Widow made the twenty first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and seven I direct that all of my just Debts Funeral and Testamentary
Charges and Expences be in the first place duly paid and satisfied by my Executor
hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give and
devise unto my Nephew John Haynes of Littlemoore aforesaid Yeoman All my Freehold
Lands and Hereditaments whatsoever situate lying and being at Overhorsepath and
Cowley in the said County of Oxford or elsewhere with their Appurtenances To hold the
same unto and to the use of the said John Haynes his Heirs and Assigns for ever
I give devise and bequeath unto my Niece Ann Small, the Wife of Joseph Small of
Littlemoore aforesaid AIl that Messuage or Tenement Half yard Land Commons
Edifices and Buildings with the Appurtenances situate lying and being in Garsington
in the said County of Oxford held by Lease under the Dean and Chapter of the
Cathedral Church of Christ in Oxford for the Residue of such Term as shall be therein
to come at the Time of the decease of Alice Pym late Alice Walter the present Tenant
for Life thereof under the Will of William Harper late of Garsington aforesaid
Yeoman deceased under which said Will I am entitled to the same on the
decease of the said Alice Pym And also All my Houshold Goods Plate Linen
China and Furniture of every description To hold the said Messuage and
Premises (expectant as aforesaid) And the said Houshold Goods Plate Linen
Chlna and Furniture, unto the said Ann Small and her Assigns for and during
the Term of her natural Life for her own sole and separate use and benefit free from
and without being subject or liable to the controul debts Forfeiture or Engagements
of her present or any future Husband his Creditors or Assigns And her Receipt alone
for the Rents and Profits of the same Premises shall be a good and sufficient
discharge and discharges to the Tenant or Tenants thereof for the Time being
And from and immediately after the decease of the said Ann Small I give devise
and bequeath the said Messuage or Tenement Half yard Land Commons and
Premises with the Appurtenances And all such Estate Term and Interest as shall
be therein to come and unexpired {expectant as aforesaid) And the said Houshold
Goods Plate Linen China and Furniture unto Elizabeth Small and Sarah Small, the
Daughters of my said Niece Ann Small, their Executors Administrators and Assigns
equally to be divided beween them share and share alike as Tenants in common
Provided that if either of them the said Elizabeth Small and Sarah Small shall
die in the Lifetime of their said Mother without leaving Issue then I give devise
and bequeath the same Messuage or Tenement and Premises Houshold Goods
Plate Linen China and Furniture after the decease of the said Ann Small unto the
Survivor of them the said Elizabeth Small and Sarah Small and the Executors
Administrators and Assigns of such Survivor absolutely Also I give and bequeath

the several Legacies and Sums of Money to the several Persons hereinafter named
(that is to say) To the said Ann Small, all my Wearing Apparel of every description
and One Hundred Pounds in Money for her own sole and separate use and benefit
free from the controul or intemeddling of her said Husband Joseph Small, and her
Receipt alone to be a good discharge for the same To my Nephews James Haynes and
William Haynes Fifty Pounds each To my Nephew Lock Haynes One hundred pounds
To my Niece Sarah Poney the Wife of William Poney of Caversham in the said County of
Oxford Laborer one hundred pounds To my Niece Elizabeth Bisley the Wife of William
Bisley of Cowley in the said County of Oxford Fifty Pounds, which said James
Haynes William Haynes Lock Haynes Sarah Poney and Elizabeth Bisley are
the Sons and Daughters of Edward and Elizabeth Haynes To my Nephew Henry Norris
Fifty Pounds To my Nephew William Norris Two hundred pounds To my Niece
Elizabeth Commins the Wife of Richard Commins of Headington in the County of
Oxford Fifty Pounds To my niece Sarah Cooper Widow Two hundred pounds To
my Niece Martha the Wife of Mr. Crawford of Horspath Fifty Pounds To my
Niece Jane the Daughter of Henry and Jane Norris Fifty Pounds To my Nephews
William Haynes John Haynes James Haynes and Thomas Haynes (the Sons of
Thomas and Ann Haynes of Marston in the said County of Oxford) One hundred
pounds each To Mary Bisley the Wife of James Bisley of Cowley aforesaid (who
fomerly lived Servant with me) Twenty pounds but if the said Mary Bisley
should die in my Lifetime I give the last mentioned Legacy of Twenty
Pounds unto the said Ann Small her Executors Administrators and
Assigns for her own sole and separate use and benefit absolutely, and I direct
the said Money Legacies to be paid to the respective Legatees by my Executor within
Six Months next after my decease All the Rest and Residue of my Money, Securities for
Money Farming Stock and Implements in Husbandry and all other my Personal Estate
and Effects which I shall die possessed of interested in or entitled unto and not
hereinbefore by me disposed of (subject to the payment of my Debts Funeral Expences
and Legacies) I give and bequeath unto my Nephew the said John Haynes his
Executors Administrators and Assigns absolutely And I nominate and appoint my said
Nephew John Haynes sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all fomer and other
Wills by me at any Time heretofore made I declare this only to be my last Will and
Testament. In Witness whereof I the said Sarah Blay have to this my Will contained
in two Sheets of Paper, set my hand to the first and my hand and Seal to this the
second and last sheet thereof the Day and year first above written.

John Haynes the Nephew and sole Executor in
this Will named was sworn to the truth thereof and as
usual And also that the whole of the Deceased's
personal Estate and Effects are under the value of
One thousand five hundred pounds this 13th
day of July 1816 Before me

This Will was proved at Oxford on the Thirteenth
day of July in the year of our Lord 1816 Before the
Reverend William Browne Clerk Master of Arts Surrogate
By the Oath of John Haynes the Nephew and sole
Executor therein named to whom Administration
was granted being first sworn duly to administer
