... I Gervass Bradgate B.Div of the University of Oxon ... sick and weak in body ... My body is to be buried either in the chapel of Lincoln College or the church of All Saints in Oxford. I give £50 to my honoured father, on condition that he signs over to my Executor all his interest in eight yard lands, half and half quarter of a yard land in LEI Bruntingthorpe, now or recently in the possession of William Hoball and John Cave. I give £50 to my nephew Gervass Howard to bind him out apprentice. I give £50 to my sister Howard, to be paid within two years after my decease. I give £50 to Lincoln College, to be paid within two years after my decease and laid out towards the purchase of a parsonage. I give £5 each to the parishes of Combe and Bladon, to be added to their poors stock. The Minister of each parish is to distribute the interest yearly to such poor parishioners as frequent the church and as he thinks the greatest objects of charity. I give my copyhold estate in Bladon to my loving brother Richard Bradgate and his heirs forever. My Executor is to expend £40 on my funeral. I give all the rest of my goods and chattels both real and personal to my brother Richard Bradgate whom I appoint sole Executor. I appoint Dr Richard Adams of Magdalen College and Mr Thomas Ward of Oriel College as my Trustees and supervisors. I also appoint them as Executors until my above Executor reaches age 25, desiring them to allow him £15 pa and to pay him £300 to set him up in his trade or profession as soon as he has served his apprenticeship ... Tm Gervasij Bradgate In the Name of God Amen The twenty fifth day of November in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seaven hundred and twelve I Gervass Bradgate of the University of Oxon Batchelor in Divinity being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and perfect memory (praised be God for the same) calling to mind the uncertainty of humane life do make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in writing as followeth First and principally I recom’end my soul into the hands of Allmighty God its maker hopeing though the alone merrits and sufferings of my blessed Saviour to obtain remission and pardon of all my sins and my body to the Earth from whence it came decently to be buried either in the Chappell of Lincoln Colledge or in the Parish Church of All Saints in the Citty of Oxon And as for such worldly Goods and Estate as it hath pleased God in his mercy to bestow upon me I give bequeath and dispose of the same in manner following I give and bequeath unto my honoured ffather the sum'e of fifty pounds upon condition that he assigne over and conveys to my Executor herein after named all his right and interest of and in those Eight yard Lands half and half quarter of a yard Land in Bruntingthorp in the County of Leicester now or late in the possession of William Hoball and John Cave I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Gervass Howard the sum’e of fifty pounds to bind him out Apprentice I give and bequeath unto my Sister Howard the sum'e of fifty pounds to be paid her within two years next after my decease I give and bequeath unto Lincoln Colledge the sum'e of fifty pounds which I desire may be laid out in and towards the purchase of a parsonage and my will is that the same be paid by my Executor within two years next after my decease I give and bequeath to the parishes of Coomb and Bladen the sum of five pounds each to be added to their respective poors stock and my will is that the Ministers of each parish yearly bestow the encrease thereof to such poore parishioners as frequent the Church and as he shall think the greatest objects of Charity I give and bequeath unto my loveing brother Richard Bradgate and his heires for ever all that my coppy hold Estate of inheritance scituate lyeing and being in Bladen aforesaid And my will is that my Executor expend and lay out in and upon my funerall the sum'e of fforty pounds All the rest and residue of my goods and Chattles as well reall as personall and not in and by this my last will given and disposed of I give and bequeath unto my said brother Richard Bradgate whom I make constitute and appoint full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament And I do hereby constitute and appoint Doctor Richard Adams of Magdalen Colledge and Mr Thomas Ward of Oriell Colledge the Trustees and Sup’visors of this my last will And my will likewise is that the said Doctor Adams and Mr Ward take upon them the Execution of this my last will untill my said Executor attain the age of twenty five years hereby desiring my said Trustees that they will yearly allow him fifteen pounds and likewise pay him as soon as he shall have served his apprenticeship the sum'e of three hundred pounds to sett him up in his trade or profession And I do hereby desire that my said Trustees will reemburse themselves all such necessary Expences as they shall be at in the Execuc’on of this my said will out of the incomes of my Estate And I do hereby revoke and disannull all former and other wills by me at any time heretobefore made In witness whereof to this my last will and Testament containing two sheets of paper I have to each sheet sett my hand and seale this twenty fifth day of November in the Eleaventh yeare of the reigne of her present ma’tie Queen Anne of Great Britain &c annoq' D’m 1712 Gervas Bradgate.
