Britnell Thos of Crowell In the name of God Amen I Thomas Britnell the Elder of the Parish of Crowell in the County of Oxford Yeoman being at this time in Good health of Body And of sound and Perfect mind and memory Thanks be given to God Do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following First I commend my soul to God my Creator And my Body to the Earth to be buried in a Decent manner at the Discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named in hopes that through my Saviour Jesus Christ of a Joyful Resurrection into Life Eternal And as to that Estate which it hath pleased Almigh ty God to bestow upon me I Dispose thereof as followeth (that is to say) First I Give, Devise and Bequeath all that part of my Messuage or Tenement situate standing and being in the Parish of Crowell afores’d Wherein I now dwell and which are in my own Possession with the Garden thereunto Adjoining and belonging and all waters ways paths and Passages belonging to the same unto my wife Anne for and During the term of her Natural Life if she so long keepeth herself a Widow And from and immediately after her Decease or Marriage to any other Man which shall first happen Then I give Devise and Bequeath unto my son Thomas Britnell all and Every the same Premises with their Appurtenances To Have and to Hold unto my said son Thomas Britnell his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Also I give Devise and bequeath unto my s’d son Thomas Britnell All & Every other my Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever lying and being in the Parish of Crowell afores’d with their and every of their Appurtenances To Have and to Hold the same and Every part and parcell thereof unto my s’d son Thomas Britnell his Heirs & Assignes for Ever Subject Nevertheless and Charged and Chargeable w’th the Payment of the yearly sum or annuity of five pounds by the year to my s’d Wife Anne for and During the term of her Natural Life And with ye Payment of Ten Pounds to my Grand Daughter Anne Bowdery at such time and in such manner and form as the same are hereinafter by me given and Bequeathed to my s’d wife Anne and my s’d Grand Daughter Anne Bowdery (that is to say) Also I give and Bequeath unto my s’d Wife Anne the Yearly sum or annuity of five Pounds of Lawful money of Great Brittain yearly and Every year for & during the term of her Natural Life to be paid to her by my s’d son Thomas Britnel his Heirs or Assigns out of my s’d Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments last mentioned at the two most usual Feasts or Days of payment in the year (that is to say) the Feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel & the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Even and Equal Portions Clear and without any Deduction for any Payment taxes or charges whatsoever the first Payment thereof to begin & be made at such of the s’d Feast Days that shall happen next after my Decease Also I Give and Bequeath unto my s’d Grand Daughter Anne Bowdery the sum of Ten Pounds of like lawful money to be paid to her by my s’d son Thomas Brittnell his Heirs and Assignes out of my s’d Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements and Hereditam’ts last mentioned when she shall attain to the Age of One and twenty years if she shall live to Attain to that Age But in case my s’d Grand Daughter Anne Bowdery shall Die before she Attains to the Age of One & Twenty years That then & in such Case my Will is and I Do hereby Direct order & Appoint that the s’d Legacy or sum of Ten Pounds shall Die with her & never be paid Also I give and Bequeath unto my son in Law John Bowdery & my Grandson John Bowdery twelve pence apiece to be paid to them respectively by my Executrix hereinafter named within one Month next after my Decease Also I give & Bequeath unto my s’d Wife Anne my Furnace & Clock and Dressers of Drawers & shelves over the same for and During the Term of her Natural Life And from & after her Decease I give & Bequeath the same unto my s’d son Thomas Brittnell Also all the rest and residue of my estate Real and Personal Goods Chattels & Cattle whatsoever I do give and Bequeath unto my s’d Wife Anne And I do make Constitute and appoint my s’d Wife Anne to be the full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And I do hereby revoke and make void all former Wills and Testament by me at any time heretofore made and do ratify and Declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the s’d Thomas Brittnell the Elder to this my last Will and Testament being Contained in one sheet of Paper have set my Hand & seal this seven and Twentieth Day of July in the Eleventh Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth And in the Year of Our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty seven the mark of Thomas Brittnell the Elder Signed sealed and Published as the last Will and Testament of the above named Thomas Brittnell the Elder in the presence of us who in the presence of the Testator have set our Hands as Witnesses thereunto the mark of Sarah Herne the mark of Anne Golly Edw’d Stevens.
