  • All my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses are to be paid
  • I give £20 to my daughter Susannah the wife of William Siarey of Kingston Blount, bricklayer.
  • I give £20 to my daughter Hester the wife of William Lucas of SRY Croydon, servant.
  • I give £20 to my daughter Jane the wife of John Shuard of HEF Gains.
  • I give £20 to my daughter Eliza Britnell.
  • All to be paid out of my personal estate twelve months from my decease and not sooner.
  • I give all my household goods, plate, linen and china, money and securities for money, debts owing, stock of liquors and wines, live and dead stock and all my other personal estate and effects, subject to the payment of the above legacies, to my two daughters Sophia Britnell and Ann Britnell now residing with me at Kingston Blount; To hold to them and their executors etc in equal shares.

Executor’s Oath
  • You swear that the contents of the annexed Affidavit, which you have signed, are true to the best of your knowledge and belief
  • That the annexed Paper Writing contains the true original Will of Jonah Britnell late of Kingston Blount ... victualler and farmer deceased, as far as you know or believe.
  • That you are the sole Executrix therein named.
  • That you will duly execute and perform the same, and pay his debts and legacies, as far as his Goods etc will thereto extend, and the Law bind you
  • That you will make, or cause to be made, a true Inventory of all [his] goods etc, which have or shall come to your hands, and exhibit it into the Registry of the Archdeacon of Oxford
  • That you will pass a just and true account of your Executrixship, when lawfully required.
  • You also swear that the Goods etc of the deceased are under the value of £600.

This is the last will and Testament of
Jonah Britnell of Kingston Blount in the Parish
of Aston Rowant in the County of Oxford Victualler
and Farmer First I desire all my just debts Funeral
and testamentary expenses to be paid and discharged
by my Executrix hereinafter named I give and
bequeath the sum of twenty pounds of Sterling
money unto my Daughter Susannah the wife of
William Siarey of Kingston Blount aforesaid
Bricklayer I give and bequeath the sum of twenty
pounds of Sterling money unto my Daughter Hester
the wife of William Lucas of Croydon in the County
of Surrey Servant I give and bequeath the sum of
twenty pounds of Sterling money unto my Daughter
Jane the wife of John Shuard of Gains in the County
of Hereford and I give and bequeath the sum of
twenty pounds of Sterling money unto my
Daughter Eliza Britnell To hold to them the
said Susannah Siarey Hester Lucas Jane Shuard
and Eliza Britnell their executors administrators and
assigns and I hereby direct that the said Legacies shall
be paid out of my Personal Estate hereinafter bequeathed
at the expiration of twelve months from the time of
my decease and not sooner and I hereby subject and charge
my said personal estate with the payment thereof I
give and bequeath all my Household goods plates
linen and china money and securities for money
debts to me owing at the time of my decease stock
of Liquors and wines live and dead stock and all
and singular other my Personal Estate and effects of
what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same
may be / subject to the payment of the aforesaid Legacies
unto my two Daughters Sophia Britnell and Ann Britnell
now residing with me at Kingston Blount aforesaid To
hold to them the said Sophia Britnell and Ann
Britnell their executors administrators and assigns
in equal shares and proportions And I do hereby
nominate and appoint the said Sophia Britnell
Sole Executrix of this my Will And I do hereby
revoke and make void all former and other wills
by me at any time heretofore made and declare
this to be my Last Will and Testament only In
witness whereof I the said Jonah Britnell the
Testator have to this my last will and Testament
set and subscribed my hand and seal this twenty
seventh Day of March in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and fortyfour / ---

Spinster the sole
Executrix named in the last Will and Testament of Jonah Britnell of
Kingston Blount in the Parish of Aston Rowant aforesaid Victualler
and Farmer deceased hereunto annexed, and by her duly
taken
