  • I give my sons and daughters Abel Calcutt, James Calcutt, Martha now the wife of James Combs, Elizabeth the wife of John Scarsbrook, Ann Calcutt and Sarah Calcutt and their heirs etc all my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments etc in Oxfordshire, and all my ready money, securities for money due, goods, chattels, personal estate and effects, to them and their heirs etc equally divided.

This is the last last Will and Testament of me John Calcutt of Old Woodstock in the County of Oxford Maltster. First I will that my Just Debts and Funeral Expences be paid and Discharged Item I give and Bequeath unto Mary Gibbs late Servant to my son Abel the Sum of Ten shillings and to my sister Elizabeth Partlett I give the Sum of five shillings. Item I give Devise and Bequeath unto my said Son Abel Calcutt my Son James Calcutt Martha now the wife of James Combs Elizabeth the wife of John Scarsbrook Ann Calcutt and Sarah Calcutt my Sons and Daughters their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns All my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and premisses whatsoever situate and being in the County of Oxford Together with all and Singular my ready Money securities for money due Goods Chattels Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever the same shall be found at the time of my decease To hold to my said two Sons and four Daughters their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns to be equally Divided between them share and share alike and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Son James full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking and making void all former Will and Wills by me made ratifying and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament
In Witness whereof I the said John Calcutt the testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seam the Eighteenth day of February in the Ninth year of the Reign of his Sovereign Majesty King George the third and in the year of out Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty nine The Marke of John Calcutt
Signed Sealed published and declared by the said John Calcutt the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence [‘and in the presence’ presumably omitted here] of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto Thomas Lampitt William Wall Elizabeth Hughes

This Will was proved at Oxford on the Twenty third day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty nine before the Reverend John Cox Clerk Master of Arts Surrogate of the Worshipfull Thomas Bever Doctor of Laws Official Principal of the Archdeaconry Court of Oxford lawfully constituted by the Oath of James Calcutt the Son of the deceased and Sole Executor therein named to whom Administration was granted being first Sworn duly to Administer.
