  • All my debts and funeral expenses are to be paid
  • I give William Andrews, son of Richard Andrews of BRK Langford, my dwelling house etc in Clanfield in Oxfordshire at age 21 forever (if he dies before 21 without issue then I give my house etc to John James of Clanfield and his heirs forever); also one bed and all belonging to it, one flaxen sheet, one table board, one long form standing beside it, one chest, one brass pot, one elbow chair, my best suit of clothes and one little coffer.
  • I give Lester Maisey of Shelton 20s to be paid within 2 years after my death, also 1 pair of coarse sheets.
  • I give Hannah Edden of BRK Buckland one pair of coarse sheets and 20s to be paid two years after my death.
  • I give my godson the son of Hannah Edden the second best pewter dish.
  • I give John James my best pewter dish and £5 to be paid on the day of William Andrews's marriage by William Andrews.
  • Thomas and Mary James shall live in and use my dwelling house in Clanfield rent-free after my decease until the heir reaches 21.
  • I give Richard Andrews 20s to be paid within two years after my death.
  • No timber upon any of the premises may be cut down or sold except for repairs until the heir comes of age.
  • All the residue of my doods and chattels I give to my friend Thomas James whom I appoint Executor ... I revoke all former wills
  • I give Rachel Clack of Shelton 5s to be paid within 2 years after my decease

In the Name of God Amen.
This Eighteenth Day of August in the Year of Our Lord One thousand Seven
Hundred Thirty Eight I Robert Clack of Clanfield in the County of Oxford
Yeoman being infirm in Body but of sound mind and memory (thanks be to God)
do make and ordaine this my Last Will and Testament (that is to say) First
I Will that all my just debts and funeral Expences be paid and discharged
and for all my Estates Goods and Chattles Whatsoever it hath pleased God to
bless me with or in any Wise give me a power to dispose of I Give and Be-
­queath the Same as followeth. Item I give unto William Andrews son of
Richard Andrews of Langford in Berkshire my dwelling house with all its
appurtenances lying and sedidated in Clanfield in Oxfordshire when he shall
attaine the age of one and Twenty Years to his assigns for ever (and if the
said William Andrews should dye before he comes to age and leaves no issue
then I give my House before mentioned and its appurtenances to John James
of Clanfield and his heirs for Ever) and also one bed and all belonging to
the same one Flaxen sheet one Table Board one Long Form standing by the same
one Chest one brass pott one Elbow Chair and my best suit of Cloaths & one
Little Coffer. Item I give unto Lester Maisey of Shelton Twenty Shillings
to be paid within 2 years after my death by my Executor and also 1 pair of
Course sheets. Item I Give unto Hannah Edden of Buckland in Berkshire one
pair of Course sheets and Twenty shillings in Money to be paid at when 2
years is expired after my death by my Executor, and also I give unto my
Godson son of Hannah Edden the second best pewter dish. Item I Give unto
John James my best pewter dish and Five Pounds to be paid unto John James
upon the day of William Andrews's marriage by the said William Andrews
And Farther my Will is that Thomas and Mary James after my discease shall
Live in my dwelling house in Clanfield and possess the same with all its
Appurtenances till the Heir of the same comes to One and twenty years Age
without demainding any rent for the same. Item I give unto Richard Andrews
the sume of Twenty shillings to be paid Unto him within two years after my
death by my Executor, and further my Will is that no Timber upon any of the
premises - not till the Heir comes to Age - be cutt down or sold except for
repairs, And all the residue of my Goods and Chattels whatsoever I give unto
my Friend Thomas James whome I appoint full and whole Executor of this my
Last Will and Testament And I do revoke and make void all former Wills and
Testaments by me at any time made and I do declare That this and none other
is my Last Will and Testament IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto sett my
hand and Seal the Day and Year above Written

I give Unto Rachel Clack of Shelton the sume of Five shillings to be paid
by my Executor Within 2 years after my dicease

MA Surrogate of the Worshipful Henry Brooke Doctor of Laws Official
Principal of the Reverend the Archdeacon of Oxon Lawfully Constituted
Thomas James the Executor duly sworn to pay the Debts and Legacies to
Exhibit an Inventory and pass an Account When by Law Required to whom
Administration was granted saving the right of all Others.
