  • I give all my free land with the housing etc at Black Bourton to my eldest son Henry Cripps, stationer in London.
  • I give my house where I now live belonging to Oriel and Balliol College(s), with the shop, cellar, backside and outhouses,.to my second son Robert Cripps, Fellow of Merton College.
  • I give all my land at Newnam [Newnham Murren? Nuneham Courtenay?] with the malthouse, other houses, orchard and mead called Norton Mead, also those tenements which I [lease from] the City outside the West Gate, to my two daughters Amy and Mary Cripps.
  • I give a tenement in Covent Garden in MDX Hart St to my son John, also £10 to be paid within two years after my decease.
  • I give all my books (bound and unbound) in my shop, housing and warehouse, also my plate, pewter. brass, bedding, and all the household stuff in my house to my sons Henrie and Robert and my daughters Amy and Mary.
  • I give 40s to the poor of Witney. 20s to the poor of Bampton, 10s to the poor of Black Bourton, 30s to the poor of St Mary's parish in Oxford.
  • I give 30s to the church of St Mary [the Virgin].
  • I give my apprentice George West 40s and a mourning cloak.
  • I give to Elizabeth May 20s and a mourning gown.
  • I give 20s to Elizabeth Mills.
  • I give the widow Slye in St Peter's parish in Oxford 1s 6d per month for life.
  • I give 50s to William Freeman in consideration of somewhat I conceive to be due to him.
  • I give £4 to Thomas Edgerly in consideration of somewhat I conceive may be due to him.
  • I give 15s to Mr Rowney the Attorney.
  • I give my son William Cripps (if he comes to England) £10 pa for life, to be paid out of the estates of Henry, Robert, Amy and Mary, 50s pa apiece.
  • I give £2 7s to the Executors of Mr John Bill in lieu of something I conceive may be due to him.
  • I give to my wife Mary Cripps all such plate and other goods as were her own, which she brought with her.
  • I give the copy of "The Roman Antiquities" to my son Henry to print at his pleasure.
  • My daughters Amy and Mary are to have and enjoy the two upper chambers in the house where I now dwell colled the hanging and white chamber, with the use of the backside and garden, while they remain unmarried.
  • I give all the rest of my goods, debts, copies to print, "Burtons Melancholye" and others, to my sons Henry and Robert.
  • I give £4 to my brother's daughter's daughter Elizabeth Eloe, to be paid within three years.
  • I give 30s to the poor of St Peter's in the Bayley, 20s to the poor of St Thomas parish, 13s 4d to St Ebbs parish, 10s to Magdalene parish.

Henry Cripps of Oxford Bookeseller of good understandinge and memory
doe make this my last will and Testament in manner as followeth ffirst
I give and bequeath to my Eldest Sonne Henry Cripps Stationer in London
all my ffree land with the houseing, and the appertenances at Black Bourton
in Oxfordshire Alsoe I give and bequeath to my second Sonne Robert Cripps
ffellowe of Merton Colledge,My house that I nowe live in, belonginge
to Oriel and Baliel Colledge with the Shopp sellar Backeside and
Outhouses. Item I give unto my Two Daughters Amy and Marie
Cripps All my Land at Newnam, with malthouse, and other houses
and Orchard and the Mead called Norton Mead Alsoe I give and bequeath
those Tenements which I hould of the Citty without the west gate, Unto
my Two Daughters Amy and Marie Cripps. Item I give and bequeath
to my Sonne John A Tenement in Coven Garden in Hart Streete
in the County of Middlesex. Item I give and bequeath to my sayd son
John Cripps Tenn pounds To bee payd by my Executors within two yeares
after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my Two sonnes Henrie
and Robert Cripps, and my two daughters Amy and Marie All my books
bound and unbound in my Shopp, Housinge, and warehouse And

yearely duringe his life. Item I give to the Executors of Mr John Bill Two
pounds seaven shillings In leiwe of somethinge I conceive may be due unto
him. Item I give and bequeath All such Plate and other goods to my wife Mary
Cripps as was her owne, and shee brought with her. Item I give and bequeath
the Coppy of the Roman Antiquities To my sonne Henry to print att his
pleasure. Item My will is That my Two daughters Amy and Mary Cripps
should have and enjoy the Two upper Chambers, colled the hanging and white
chamber in the house I nowe dwell in, dureinge the tyme of theire continueinge
unmarried with the use of the backeside and garden; All the rest of my goods
debts, coppyes to print, Burtons Melancholye and others I give and be=
=queath to my two sonnes Henry and Robert. Item I give to Elizabeth Eloe my
Brothers daughters daughter, ffower pounds To bee payd within three yeares
Item I give to the poore of saint Peters in the Bayley in Oxford Thirty shillings
Item I give to the poore of saynt Thomas parish Twenty shillings And to the
parish of saynt Ebbs Thirteen shillings and foure pence; And to Magdalene
parish Tenn shillings. Item My will is That my ffunerall expences, debts
and legacyes should bee payd, The one halfe out of my Bookes And the other
halfe by my Executors, out of my debts and other goods, And for sure perfore=
=mance of all I doe ordayne and appoint my Two sonnes Henry and Robert
Cripps my Executors And I make Mathew Langley gent, and Martyne

This will was proved att London the fowerteenth
day of September in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand sixe hundred
ffiftie and eight Before the Judges for probate of wills and grantinge Adminis=
=tratione lawfully authorized by the Oathes of Henry Crippes and Robert Crippes
the Sonnes and Executors named in the sayd will To whom Adminis=
=tration of all and singuler the goods Chattells and Debts of the sayd deceased
was Committed They beinge first sworne truely to Administer the same
