  • I give the Advowson of Kingham to my daughter Anne Foley and the lawful heirs male of her body. If there are no such heirs, I give it to my daughter Lucy Dowdeswell and the lawful heirs male of her body.
  • I give £2000 to my daughter Lucy Dowdeswell.
  • I give the residue of all I have between my two daughters, two thirds to Lucy and the rest to Anne.
  • I give £5 to be distributed among the poor of Kingham at my death.
  • I request my brother-in-law Joseph Percival and his son Richard to continue my Copper Share in either of their hands, for the benefit of my two daughters.

We the Rev Robert Foley of Kingham, clerk, Lucy Dowdeswell of Kingham, spinster, and George Dowdeswell Esq of Kingham acknowledge ourselves to be bound to Henry Brooke ... £4000 ... to the payment of which .... we bind ourselves, and our Heirs, Executors and Administrators.

Condition of this Obligation:
  • Whereas the Rev'd William Dowdeswell, Rector of Kingham, made his will but appointed no Executor, now Administration of his goods etc (with the will annexed) is granted to Ann Foley, wife of the above Robert Foley, and Lucy Dowdeswell, daughter of the deceased.
  • the above-bound Robert Foley and Lucy Dowdeswell must truly administer those goods etc.
  • They must make and exhibit a full Inventory into the Registry of the Archdeacon's Court in Oxford, on or before 30 Sep [1751]
  • They must make a true and just account of that Administration, at or before 30 Sep 1752.
  • They must fulfil the will in all points.
  • They must save harmless [all possible bureaucrats] against [everyone].
  • If all that is done, then this Obligation is void.

In ye name of God Amen. I W'm Dowdeswell R'r of Kingham
in Com' Oxon make this my last Will in form following.
First I return my soul to God who gave it, begging his ac-
-ceptance of it, desiring My Saviour X to cleanse it from
all it's pollutions by his Blood. Item I give the Ad-
-vowson of Kingham to my daughter Anne Foley
and her heirs male lawfully begotten on her Body,
In failure of y'm to my daughter Lucy Dowdeswell
and her heirs male lawfully begotten on her Bo-
-dy. Item I give to my daughter Lucy Dowdeswell the
Summ of two thousand pounds. The residue of all
I have I give between my above named Daughters
two thirds to my Daughter Lucy Dowdeswell and
the other, to my Daughter Anne Foley. Item I give
five pounds to be distributed among ye poor of King
ham at my death. I make this request to my Brother
in Law Joseph Percival & his Son Richard, to con-
-tinue my Copper Share in either of their Hands, for
the use & benefit of my two above named Daughters.

Know all men by these presents That we the Reverend Robert ffoley of Kingham
in the County of Oxford Clerk Lucy Dowdeswell of Kingham aforesaid Spinster and
George Dowdeswell of the same place Esquire do acknowledge ourselves to be separately
and jointly holden and firmly bound unto Henry Brooke Doctor of Laws and Official
Principal of the Rev'd the Archdeacon of Oxford lawfully appointed in the Sum of
Four thousand pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to
the said Doctor Brooke or his certain Attorney Executors Administrators Successors or
Assigns To the payment of which well and truly to be made We bind ourselves and
each of us by himself and herself for the whole and in the full our and each of our Heirs Executors
and Administrators firmly by these presents Dated the ffourth day of June in the twenty
fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God
of Great Britain ffrance and Ireland King Defender of the ffaith and so forth and in the
year of our Lord 1751.

The Condition of this Obligation is such That whereas That the Rev'd William Dowdeswell late
Rector of Kingham in the County and Archdeaconry aforesaid deceased made his last Will and Testament
in Writing and named & appointed no Executor thereof Wherefore Administration of all and singular
the Goods Credits and Chattles of the said deceased by authority of the above named official is granted
and Committed to Ann ffoley wife of the above named Robert ffoley and Lucy Dowdeswell Daughter
of the said deceased with his Will annexed If therefore the above bound Robert ffoley & Lucy Dowdeswell and George Dowdeswell
do well and truly Administer the said goods Credits and Chattels of the said deceased and also do
make or cause to be made a true & perfect Inventory of all & singular the goods Chattels and Credits of
the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of the said Administratrixes
or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for them and the same so made do
Exhibit or cause to be Exhibited into the Registry of the above named Archdeacons Court in Oxford
on or before the last day of September next Ensuing and the same Goods Chattles Credits and all other
the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased at the time of his Death which at any time after shall
come to the hands or possession of the said Administratrixes or into the hands and possession of any
other person or persons for them do well and truly Administer according to Law and further do
make or cause to be made a true and just Account of their said Administration on or before the last
day of September 1752. And moreover do and shall observe perform and fulfill the Will of the said
deceased in all points according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and Lastly do and
shall at all times hereafter save harmless and keep indemnified the said Official and all his officers
and ministers of the said Court touching and concerning the granting of Letters of Administration
as aforesaid against all manner of Person or Persons whomsoever Then this obligation to be void
or else to remain in full force and virtue.
