Died 23 July 1704 It seems clear that son John was in some way handicapped. "Father" Mr PAWLIN could be father-in-law or step-father -- the editor can find no PR evidence either way. Dr Robert Cocks later inherited his father's Baronetcy (of GLS Dumbleton) after the 1726 death of his elder brother. A 1719 note says that 18 Sep 1706 daughter Sarah Fulke had married Dr William Baddiford of Exeter College, when her quarterly payment given in the will would have ceased It appears that by 1719 Sarah still hadn't had her rights, so applied for Probate for herself. Her mother had died in 1718, and maybe sister Anne was doing nothing. Tm Johannis ffulke In the Name of God Amen This Eighteenth day of May in the third yeare of her Ma’ties Reigne Annoq’ D’ni One thousand seaven hundred and foure I John Fulke of the University of Oxon Gent being in moderate health of body and of sound and disposing mind and memory (praised be God) doe for the disposing that Estate it hath pleased God to bless me with make this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and form following Imprimis I commend my soule to God and my body to the Earth to be buried in the parish church of St. Mary in Oxon in such decent manner as my Executrixes hereinafter named shall think fitt. Item I give and bequeath unto my deare wife Mrs Sarah Fulke during her life the yearly sum'e of Seaventy pounds to be paid her quarterly on the four most usuall ffeasts or days of payment in the yeare (that is to say) the Annunciac'on of the blessed virgin Mary, St. John the Baptist, St. Michael the Archangell and St. Thomas the Apostle by even and equall portions. Item I give and bequeath unto my Son John Fulke during his life the yearly sum'e of thirty pounds to be paid him quarterly at the ffeasts or dayes of payment aforesaid by equall portions the first payment of the said respective sum'es to begin and to be made upon such of the said days as shall first come and be after my decease and that all the said payments shall be made free from all Taxes deductions or abatements whatsoever And I doe charge all my messuages lands Tenements and Hereditaments in the City of Oxford and Counties of Bucks Berks and Gloucester with the payment thereof. Item I give unto my said wife the summe of ten pounds with one silver porringer and spoone and one halfe of all my linnen with all the furniture of my best chamber as it is now furnished. Item whereas upon the marriage of my dear Daughter Mrs Anne Cocks with Doctor Cocks I did become bound to pay unto the said Doctor Cocks the sum'e of one thousand pounds and for the payment of the further sum'e of two hundred and fifty pounds at my death (or to that effect) of which said sum'e of one thousand pounds I have fully satisfyed the said Doctor Cocks by securing unto him an Estate at Comner in the County of Berks I do hereby order the said sum'e of Two or hundred and fifty pounds to be paid him forthwith after my decease and over and besides the same I doe give and bequeath to my said daughter Cocks the further Sum'e of two hundred and fifty pounds to be paid her within two yeares after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mrs Sarah Fulke the summe of one thousand pounds lawfull money of England to be paid her on the day of her marriage Provided she marry with the consent of my said wife and of my ffather Mr. Pawlin and Doctor Irish or any two of them my wife being one (if she be then living) but if my said Daughter shall marry without such consent then I doe give and bequeath five hundred pounds part of the said sum'e of one thousand pounds unto and amongst all the children of my said Daughter Cocks which shall be living at the time of her said marriage share and share alike And untill my said Daughter Sarah shall marry I give and bequeath unto her the yearly sum'e of fifty pounds free from all taxes and deductions whatsoever to be paid unto her by quarterly payments at or on the ffeasts or dayes of payment aforesaid the first payment to begin and to be made upon such of the said dayes as shall first come and be after my decease with payment whereof I charge my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments as aforesaid. Item I give unto the poor of the parish of St Mary aforesaid or of such other parish within the said City as my said Executrixes shall think fitt the sume of five pounds to be distributed by them in such manner as they shall think fitt. Item I give & bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Dorothy Cocks the summe of Ten pounds lawfull money of England to be paid within six months after my decease Desiring that the same may be placed out at intrest for her till she shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares And I doe appoint the aforesaid yearly sum'e of thirty pounds herein before given to my said Son John shall (after the death and decease of my said wife) be paid unto the said Doctor Cocks and Anne his wife and the Survivour of them their heires Executors or Administrators during the life of my said Son John to be by them disposed of for the maintenance and benefitt of my said Son. Item my express will is that as often as any of my leasehold Estates shall want renewing of the Grand LandLords from whome they are holden be from time time (at the usuall ori'le sic and accustomed times[)] renewed by my Executrixes and that all charges of such renewing be raised and paid out of the premisses soe to be renewed as aforesaid and that all my just debts and funerall charges be fully paid and discharged. Item I hereby nominate and appoint my said wife my ffather Pawlin Doctor Irish and Doctor Cocks Trustees and Overseers of this my will desiring them their heires and Assignes to see the same punctually performed and for their care and paines therein to be taken I give to each of them the sume of ten pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid them within six months after my decease. and I doe will that my said Trustees and Overseers aforesaid shall and may from time to time deduct and keepe out of my reall and personall Estate soe much money as shall be sufficient to reimburse them for what expences or damages they shall sustaine by reason or meanes of the trust I doe hereby repose in them. Provided and my will is that in case my said Daughter Sarah shall dye before she shall marry then I doe hereby give unto all the children of my said Daughter Cocks who shall be then living whatsoever I have hereby given unto my said Daughter Sarah and to their heires Executors & Administrat’rs to be equally divided betweene them. Item I hereby nominate constitute appoint and ordaine my said dear wife and Daughter Cocks joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament provided that in case my said Daughter Sarah marry with such consent as aforesaid and have any child that upon the birth of such child my said Daughter Sarah shall be and become one of my Execut’rs with my said wife and Daughter Cox, In witness whereof I have to this my Will contained in two sheets of paper to each sheete thereof sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written. // John Fulke.
