The legacies to the MORGAN family are confused -- it is not clear what heppens if the mother is still alive when the children reach 21.
The following details are believed to be true but should not be totally relied upon:

  • My body is to be Interred in the grave of my late husband Timothy Gibbard in the churchyard of St Margaret in Westminster, and a new stone is to be laid over our remains, inscribed as I may appoint.
  • I give my niece Ann Morgan (wife of Joseph Morgan of Birmingham, curry-comb maker) all my wearing apparel except that given below.
  • The household furniture and all other property not disposed of below is to be sold for the following purposes:
    • First to discharge my debts, dues and demands, funeral and testamentary expenses.
    • I give the residue (if any) to William Morgan, Benjamin Lester Morgan, Jeremiah Morgan, John Morgan and Mary Morgan, children of the above Joseph and Ann.
    • It is to be invested and the interest paid to Ann Morgan for life for her own benefit.
    • If any of the children die before inheriting, their share is to be equally divided amongst the survivors, as is the principal when each of them reaches age 21.
  • I give the brothers, sister, nephew and cousin of my late husband Timothy Gibbard the following sums:
    • To Richard Gibbard, Edward Bigg Gibbard and Emma Fowler, widow, £2 2s each.
    • To James Gilding £5.
    • To Ann Thompson, widow, £1 1s.
  • I give my servant who is living with me at the time of my decease my best black silk gown and coat, a black bombazine gown and coat, my two best cloaks, a Dresden apron and ruffles, two broad-hemmed muslin aprons, one long lawn apron, two cloth aprons, a laced cap and handkerchief, two long muslin hoods, three night caps, two plain double handkerchiefs, one with a broad hem, three striped bordered handkerchiefs, two pairs of small broad-hemmed ruffles, a Marseilles petticoat coat, a white petticoat, a flannel petticoat, two shifts, a pair of silk gloves, a fan and £2 2s as well as any wages that may be due.
  • I give Jonathan Shaw of St Clement Danes Westminster £3 3s, and appoint him Executor ... revoking all other wills.

In the Name of God Amen
I Elizabeth Gibbard of the Parish of St John the
Evangelist Westminster in the County of Middlesex Widow
being weak in Body but sound in Mind (praised be
God for it) well knowing the uncertainty of human
Life do make and ordain this to be my last Will
and Testament (that is to say) Principally I most
humbly recommend my Soul to God that gave it (this?
sinful) that at the General Resurrection I shall receive
the same in perfect ffelicity through the Mediation of
his only son Jesus Christ our Lord And my Body
to the Earth to be Interred in the same Grave of
my late Husband Timothy Gibbard in the Church Yard
of Saint Margaret in Westminster as aforesaid and a new
Stone to be laid over our Remains with an Inscription
on it as I may appoint And as touching such
Worldly Matters as I may be possessed of by God's
blessing at the time of my decease I give and
bequeath in the following manner ffirst I give unto
my Niece Ann Morgan Wife of Joseph Morgan of the
Town of Birmingham in the County of Warwick Curry
comb maker all my wearing apparel excepting that
which is hereafter disposed of the Household ffurniture to
be sold and also all other property that I may

be possesed of at the time of my decease that is
not here otherwise disposed of to discharge all Debts
dues and demands ffuneral and all Expences attending
the Execution of this my Will and Testament the
Rest and Residue (if any) I give unto William
Morgan Benjamin Lester Morgan Jeremiah Morgan
John Morgan and Mary Morgan Children of the
above named Joseph and Ann Morgan to be placed
in some of the Public ffunds and the Interest
thereof to be received by the said Ann Morgan only
for her own use and benefit during her natural
life Also in case if any of the above named
Children should happen to die before they become
intitled to their respective shares the property thus
bequeathed to be equally divided amongst the Survivors
as also the Principal when each of them shall
attain the Age of Twenty one Years jointly or
separately Also I give unto the Brothers Sister
Nephew and Cousin of my late Husband Timothy
Gibbard the following Sums to Richard Gibbard two
pounds two shillings To Edward Bigg Gibbard two
pounds two shillings To Emma ffowler Widow two
pounds two shillings To James Gilding ffive pounds
To Ann Thompson Widow one pound one shilling
which sums are to be paid in good and lawful
of Great Britain [sic] Also I give unto my Servant
that shall live with me at the time of my
decease my best black silk Gown and Coat a black

Westminster and County aforesaid the Sum of Three
pounds three shillings whom I appoint to be the
Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby
revoking all others In Witness hereof I have set
my hand and seal this 24th day of July in the
Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
eighty nine - Elis'h Gibbard (O) Signed Sealed published
and declared by the said Elizabeth Gibbard as her
last Will and Testament in the presence of us George
Jefford, George Roberts.

This Will was proved at London the eleventh
day of December in the Year of Our Lord one
Thousand seven hundred and eighty nine before the
Worshipful William Battine Doctor of Laws Surrogate of
the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of
Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative
Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of
Jonathan Shaw the sole Executor named in the said Will
to whom Administration was granted of all and
singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the Deceased
having been first sworn duly to administer.
