  • 20s is to be given in bread to the poor of Hailey.
  • I give my house, close, and two adjoining tenements at Delly End in Hailey to my eldest daughter Ann Andrews and her heirs forever [after the decease of my wife and myself].
  • I give £20 each to Ann's two children, Ann and Thomas, to be paid after my wife's decease out of a £40 bond due to me from Thomas Wast of Sutton.

In the name of God, Amen. on the nineteenth day
of August, in the year of our Lord God, one thousand
six hundred and seventy. I John Godfry the elder, of
the tithing of Haily in the parish of Witny, in the
County of Oxford Couper, being of sound mind and perfect
memory, prais be to God, make this my last will in
manner following: first I offer up my soul to God my
maker and redeemer, and will that my body be decently
buried in Witny churchyard, and that twenty shillings
be given in bread to the poor of Haily. also I give, will,
and devise my hous, close, and two tenements, next adioining
all situate at Delly end in Hailey tithing in the parish
of Witny aforesaid, to Ann Andrews, my eldest daughter
to have and to hould to hir and hir heirs for ever, yet reserveing
therein my own life, and the life of my wife. also I will
and bequeath to hir two children Ann and Thomas, to each
of them, twenty pounds in mony, to be paid them after the
deceas of my wife, out of a bond of forty pounds due to me from
Thomas Wast of Sutton in the County of Oxford. also I
give, will, and devize to my younger daughter, Amy
Godfry, three farndells of land in Haily field, lying in a thorough
shoot, between Chastel, and Crayly, to have and to hould to
hir and hir heirs for ever; also I will and bequeath to
my said daughter Amy threescore pounds in mony, to be paid
hir within a month after my deceas. also I bequeath

years ould. item I bequeath to Daniel Godfry, and Samuel
Godfry, youngest sonns of my son John, five pounds
in mony to each of them, after the deceas of my wife, also
I bequeath to my son John Godfry twenty shillings, after
the deceas of my wife, and of this my will I make my
wife Mather Godfry, my sole Executrix. and of the
execution of the same, I ordain Henry Smith of Haily
yeoman to be overseer. and I utterly revoke and null
all other wills, and testaments, and all and every other
former legacies, bequeaths, executors, overseers, by me
anywise before this time made, willed, devised, bequeathed
or named
