  • I give all my land, premises, barns, stables etc to my brother Edmund Hester and his heirs forever, on condition that within one month after my decease he pays £250 to Joyce now my wife.
  • I give my sister Ellen Burnham £5.
  • I give the children of my sister Jane Meade £5, which was a legacy given to them by my brother Thomas Hester deceased.
  • I give the poor folks of Aston and Chalford 40s.
  • I give my man John Clarke 10s.
  • I give Agnes Hilchingdon 5s.
  • All the rest of my goods not bequeathed I give to my brother Edmund Hester whom I make executor.

In the name of god Amen The 3ith day of December in the yeare
of our lord god 1623 I John Hester of Aston Rowant in the
Countie of Oxon yeoman sicke in bodie but in good & p'fect
memorie thanks be given to god do ordaine constitute and
make this my p'sent testamt contayninge herein my last
will in maner and forme followinge First I com'end
my soule into the hands of allmightye god my Creator
and to Jesus Christ my alone Savior and Redeemer
through whose most p'cious blood shedinge I trust to have
free comission of all my sinnes and do leave all my
hereditam'ts lande goods Cattells and Chattels to be
disposed as followeth First I give grant bequeath and
confirme all my lande p'm'ses barnes stables & all other
mine hereditam'ts whatsoever to my brother Edmund
Hester and to his heires for ever p'vided allwayes
& it is my will th't he the said Edmund Hester shall
w'thin the space of one monthe next after my
decease satisfie and paye to Joyce now my wife
the full sume of two hundred and fiftye pounds of
lawfull money of England Item I give to my sister
Ellen Burnham five pounds Item I give to the
Children of my sister Jane Meade five pounds
the w'ch was a legacie given unto them by my
brother Thomas Hester deceased Item I give
to the poore folkes of Aston aforesaid & Chalford
fourtye shillings Item I give to my man John
Clarke ten shillings Item I give to Agnes Hilchingdon
five shillings All the rest of my goods not bequeathed
I give and bequeath them to my said brother Edmund
Hester whom I ordaine constitute and make my
true and lawfull executor to execute this my last
will & testam't In wittnesse whereof I have here
