  • All my debts and funeral charges are to be paid.
  • I desire to be interred in the churchyard of Wootton in or as near to the grave of my late mother as possible, and I direct that my Trustees within one year after my decease shall cause to be erected upon my grave a tombstone engraved with my age and the date of my death.
  • I give to Killingworth Hedges of Hungerford Market in MDX St Martin in the Fields, tallow chandler, and William Hedges of Wootton, cordwainer, and my [sic] heirs my messuage etc in Wootton now in the occupation of my kinsman Richard Johnson; In Trust to sell [the property] and apply the proceeds towards payment of my debts, funeral expenses and the following annuity and legacies
    • £10 In Trust for Silence Williams (late Silence Hedges) and her lawful issue.
      For default of such issue then In Trust to be equally divided amongst all her brothers and sisters living at her decease.
    • I give Richard Johnson an annuity or weekly sum of 1s 6d for life, provided the Parish of Wootton also pay him 1s 6d weekly, but not otherwise.
    I give to Killingworth Hedges, Margaret Brooks, Silence Williams, Thomas Hedges, John Hedges and Benjamin Hedges, sons and daughters of my late Aunt Hedges, all my [rights etc] in the leasehold [properties] in which I am now interested in the Strand in St Martin in the Fields, equally divided between them as tenants in common.
    But the share of Silence Williams shall be to the same uses etc as the above £10, and her receipt only, notwithstanding her coverture, shall be a sufficient discharge to my Trustees.
  • All the residue of my estates both real and personal I give to Killingworth Hedges and William Hedges and their heirs etc in equal shares.
  • I appoint Killingworth Hedges and William Hedges joint Trustees and Executors.

This is the last Will
of me William Johnson of Wootton in the County of Oxford
Gentleman ffirst I will that all my just debts and ffuneral
charges be paid and discharged Item my desire is to be interred
in the Church yard of Wootton aforesaid in or as near the Grave
of my late Mother as possible and I do hereby will and direct
that my Trustees hereinafter named do and shall within one
year next after my decease cause to be erected upon my Grave
a Tombstone on which shall be fairly cut or engraved my Age
Day of the Month and date of the year when I departed this
Life Item I give and devise unto Killingworth Hedges of Hungerford
Market in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields in the County
of Middlesex Tallow Chandler and William Hedges of Wootton
aforesaid Cordwainer and my Heirs All that my Messuage or
Tenement and Premises with the Appurtenances situate and
being in Wootton aforesaid now in the Occupation of my Kinsman
Richard Johnson To hold to the said Killingworth Hedges and
William Hedges their Heirs and Assigns and the Heirs and Assigns
of the Survivor of them in Trust to sell and dispose of the said
Premises and the Monies arising and to be made by Virtue
of such Sale to be paid and applied towards payment of my
just debts ffuneral Expences Annuity and Legacies hereinafter
mentioned Item I give and bequeath unto the said Killingworth
Hedges and William Hedges and the Survivor of them and the
Executors and Administrators of such Survivor the sum of ten
pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain In trust for Silence
Williams (late Silence Hedges) and the Issue of her Body
lawfully begotten or to be begotten and for default of such
Issue Then In trust to be equally divided to and amongst
all and every the Brothers and Sisters of the said Silence

Williams which shall be living at the time of her decease in
equal shares Item I give and bequeath unto the said
Richard Johnson and his Assigns during the Term of his
natural Life an Annuity or weekly Sum of one shilling and
six pence Provided the Parish of Wootton aforesaid do and
shall allow and pay to the Richard Johnson the like weekly sum
of one shilling and six pence during the said Term but not
otherwise Item I give and bequeath unto the said Killingworth
Hedges Margaret Brooks the said Silence
Williams Thomas Hedges John Hedges and Benjamin Hedges
Sons and Daughters of my late Aunt Hedges deceased all
and singular my Estate Right Title Share and Interest Term
and Terms of years yet to come and unexpired Property
Claim and Demand whatsoever of me the said William
Johnson of in and to all and singular these Leasehold Messuages
Cottages or Tenements and Premises with their and every
of their Appurtenances I am now interested in and intitled
unto situate standing and being in the Strand in the Parish
of Saint Martin in the ffields aforesaid to be equally divided
between them share and share alike as Tenants in common
But my Will and Meaning further is that the share and
Interest in the said Leasehold premises by me given and bequeathed
to the said Silence Williams shall stand remain continue and be
to the same uses Trusts Intents and Purposes as the Sum of
Ten Pounds by me given to her and her Issue any Thing
in this my Will contained to the contrary in any wise
notwithstanding And that the Receipt of the said Silence Williams
only notwithstanding her Coverture shall from time to time
during the Term of her natural Life be a sufficient Discharge
to my Trustees for the Issues and Profits of her said
Legacies All the rest residue and remainder of my Estates
of what Sort Nature or Kind soever both real and
personal I give devise and bequeath the same unto the
said Killingworth Hedges and William Hedges their Heirs
Executors Administrators and Assigns in equal shares And
I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said
Killingworth Hedges and William Hedges joint Trustees
and Executors of this my last Will and Testament

last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who in his
presence and at his request and in the presence of each
other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto

Day of July in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven
Hundred and Eighty two before the Worshipful Andrew Coltee?

of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted
by the Oaths of Killingworth Hedges and William Hedges the
Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was
granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of
the deceased having been first sworn duly to administer
