  • I give the following to my son John Letch of the City of London, goldsmith, and his heirs etc forever:
    • My tenement in New St in Chipping Norton where Moses Brooks now dwells, and the adjoining barn.
    • My close in Chipping Norton adjoining to Clay Lane near the churchyard, now in the possession of John Jaquest.
    • My piece of hay ground in the Mead in Chipping Norton now in the possession of Thomas Huggins.
    • All my other lands, tenements etc.
    • All my boards, rafters, planks and scaffolds.
    • My drawing table in the parlour, six high joined stools, one long table, two forms and a rack and joined cupboard in the hall.
    • A salting trough in the buttery and all the shelves and stells in that or any other room.
    • A furnace in the kitchen, and a bedstead and cupboard in the kitchen chamber.
  • I give the interest of £80 to my daughter Christian Groves for life, to be paid half-yearly into her own hands for her own separate use, her husband to have no control over it and her receipts being sufficient discharges.
    After her death I give the the £80 equally divided between her then-living children, to be paid within six months after her death.
    If any are then under 21 their shares are to be invested by my Executors for their benefit until that age, then paid with the interest etc.
    If any die before 21 their shares go equally between the survivors.
  • I give £50 each to the four children of my daughter Sarah Andrews, to be paid at my death to those over 21.
    If any are then under 21 their shares are to be invested by my Executors for their benefit until that age, then paid with the interest etc.
    If any die before 21 their shares go equally between the survivors.
  • I give £20 each to John and Elizabeth, the two youngest children of my late son Anthony Letch, to be paid at age 21 with interest etc.
    If either dies before 21 his/her share goes to the survivor.
  • I give £7 to my sister Elizabeth Allen, widow, (a debt that she now owes me), if she out-lives me.
    If she dies before me I give the £7 to her two daughters Hannah Beck and Elizabeth Harris.
  • I give a ring worth a guinea to my daughter Elizabeth Felton, if she is living at my death.
  • I give £4 to the poor of Chipping Norton, to be distributed in bread by my Executors within a month after my burial.
  • I give £5 to my granddaughter Sarah Groves.
  • I give the residue of my household goods equally between my grandchildren Sarah Andrews and John Andrews.
  • My debts and funeral expenses being first paid, I give all the rest of my goods, chattels and personal estate to my son John Letch and my son-in-law Elias Andrews, and make them my Executors.

In the name of God Amen the second day of June in the year of our Lord One
Thousand seven hundred & twelve I John Letch of Chipping Norton in the County of
Ox'on Tanner being in health of Body & of perfect memory Yet considering the frailty of
mans life and the uncertainty of the time of his death doe make this my last Will & Testam't
in manner following (viz) ffirst I commit my soul to God my Creator hopeing to be saved
thro the merits & Intercession of Jesus Christ my savior and my Body to the Earth
to be decently buried by my Executors after named And as for my Worldly Estate I dispose thereof
as followeth Impri's I give & devise to my son John Letch of the City of London Goldsmith
& to his heirs & assigns for ever All that my Tenem't in the New street in Chipping Norton
afores'd wherein Moses Brooks now dwells & the Barn thereto adjoyning And all that my
Close in Chipping Norton afores'd adjoining to the Clay Lane near the Churchyard there
now in the possession of John Jaquest And also my peice of Hay Ground in the Mead in
Chipping Norton afores'd now in the possession of Thomas Huggins And all other my Lands
Tenem'ts & Hereditam'ts whatsoever And I also give to my said son John Letch All my Boards
Rafters planks and scaffolds w'tsoever Item I give to my said son John Letch my
drawing table in the parlor & six high joyn'd stools and one long Table two fforms & a Rack & joyned Cupboard in
the Hall A Salting Trough in the Buttery & all the shelves & stells in that or any other
Room One ffurnace in the Kitchin & in the Kitchin Chamber a Bedstead & Cupboard

the interest of Eighty pounds to be paid her halfe yearly during her life by my Executors for
her own separate & particular use And my will is that my Executors shall pay the same
into her own hands so that her husband may have no power to receive or dispose thereof
And that Acquittances under her hand shall from time to time be sufficient discharges for
the same And when my s'd daughter Christian Groves shall depart this life I give the sum
of Eighty pounds to such of her children as shall be living at her death equally to be
divided amongst them & to be paid w'thin six months after her death but if any of them shall
be then under the age of Twenty & one years my Will is that the shares of such of them shall
be set forth to interest by my Executors for their benefit till they shall attain their respective ages
of Twenty & one years & shall be then paid them w'th the interest & advantage thereof that can
be made in the mean time And if any of them shall die before they shall attain to that age
my will is that the share of such of them so dying shall be paid to the survivor or survivors by equal
proportions if more than one such survivor Item I give to the four Children of my daughter
Sarah Andrews fifty pounds apeice to be paid at my death to such of them as shall be

then of the age of Twenty & one years but if any of them shall be under that age then my will
is that the Legacies of such of them shall be set to interest by my Executors till they shall attain
their respective aged of Twenty & one years and that then the same Legacies w'th the advantage
thereof made in the mean time shall be paid to them And if any of the s'd four children of my said
Daughter Sarah shall die in my life time or before such their ages of Twenty & one years my
will is that the Legacies of such of them so dying shall be paid to the survivor or survivors of
them equally to be divided if there shall be more than one such survivor Item I give to
John & Elizabeth the two youngest children of my late son Anthony Letch deceased Twenty
pounds a piece to be paid by my Executors when they shall attain to their respective ages of
Twenty & one years w'th all interest & advantage that can be made thereof in the mean time
And if either of them ye s'd two youngest children shall die before that age then my will
is that the Legacy of such of them so dying shall be paid to the survivor Item I give my
sister Elizabeth Allen widow the sum of seven pounds being a debt she now owes me in case
she shall survive me but if she dies before me I give the same seven pounds to Hannah
Beck & Elizabeth Harris her two daughters Item I give my daughter Elizabeth ffelton a
Ring of a Guinea value to be provided for her by my Executors if she shall be living at
my death Item I give ffour pounds to the poor of Chipping Norton to be distributed amongst
them in Bread by my Executors w'thin a month after my Burial Item I give to my Grandaughter
Sarah Groves ffive pounds Item I give the residue of my Houshold Goods not before
disposed of to my Grand Children Sarah Andrews & John Andrews equally to be divided between
them All the rest of my Goods Ch'ells and personal Estate not before given & bequeathed
I give to my said son John Letch & my son in Law Elias Andrews (after my debts and
funeral Expences shall be discharged) And I make and constitute the said John Letch
& Elias Andrews Executors of this my last Will & Testam't In witnes whereof I have
to the first sheet hereof set my hand & to the second sheet my hand & seal the day &
year first w'thin written
