  • I give my three children Anne Lucas, Elizabeth Lucas and William Lucas £30 (£10 each) to be paid at age 21.
    If any of them die before inheriting, I give his/her portion equally between the survivors.
  • I give my eldest son John Lucas 1s, having already set apart his portion.
  • My debts, legacies and funeral expenses being paid, I give all the residue of my goods, chattels, cattell, corn and household stuff to my loving wife Anne whom I make sole Executrix ... I revoke all former wills.

In the Name of God Amen the ffirst Day of [____]
in the second year of the Reign of o'r Sovereign Lord [George by]
the Grace of God of Great Britain ffrance & Ireland King De[fender]
of the ffaith &c Annoqu' Dom' 1716 I John Lucas of Wat[lington]
in the County of Oxon yeoman being sick & weak in Body [____]
but of sound & perfect mind & memory praise be therefore [given?]
to Allmighty God Do make & ordain this my last Will and [Testament]
in mann'r & form following that is to say ffirst and p[rincipally]
I commend my soul into ye hands of Allmighty God hoping [through?]
the meritts Death & passion of my Savio'r Jesus Christ [to receive?]
full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and [to inherit?]

Everlasting Life And my Body to the Earth to be decently
buried at ye Discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named
And as touching ye Disposition of all such temporall estate as it
hath pleased Allmighty God to bestow upon me I give and
dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I give & bequeath unto
my three Children (viz't) Anne Lucas Elizabeth Lucas and William
Lucas the sum'e of thirty pounds of Lawfull money Money [sic]
of Great Britain to be paid unto them respectively when they
shall attain to their severall age & ages of one & twenty years
I mean to each of them Ten pounds But my will & meaning
is that if either of my said three Children shall happen to
depart this Life before his her or their or either of their
said Legacys shall become due and payable as aforesaid that
then & in such case I do hereby give & bequeath the portion
or portions of her him or them or any or either of them
so dying unto & amongst ye surviv'rs and surviv'r of them share
& share alike Item I give & bequeath unto my eldest son John
Lucas one shilling having already severed(?) & appointed his
portion Item my funerall Expences Debts and Legacys
being paid & discharged I give & bequeath all the Rest and
Residue of my Goods Chattles Cattell Corn and Household stuffe
unto Anne my loving Wife whom I make constitute and ordain
sole & whole Executrix of this my last will and Testam't Desiring
her faithfully to perform ye same according to ye true Intent
& meaning hereof And Lastly I do hereby revoke make void
& disannull all former & other Wills of mine whatsoever by
me att any time heretofore made either in word or writing
ratifying and confirming this & no other to be my last Will
and Testam't In Witness whereof I ye said John Lucas have
hereunto sett my hand & seal ye Day year [sic] first above written
The mark of John Lucas Signed sealed published and declared by
the said John Lucas ye Testat'r to be his last Will and Testam't in ye
p'sence of us who also subscribed o'r names as Witnesses in ye p'sence
of the said Testat'r The mark of Thomas Green, John Atkins The
