  • I give £100 to my Executors In Trust [to pay it] to my sister Odilia Herfelds? widow, now or recently living in the Street of Saint Severin at Cologne on the Rhine, or in case of her death to divide it equally between her surviving children. My Executors are not to be answerable for any loss etc that may happen in making that remittance
  • I give £40 to my godson John Blowfield, now or recently of Queen St, Soho [London], son of the late Thomas Blowfield of Oxford, carpenter, to be paid within six months after my decease.
  • I give £30 to my housekeeper Mary Laight in consideration of her faithful services (if she is living with me at my death).
  • I give one picture, print or drawing to each of my Executors as a memorial of their kindness, to be chosen by them in the order in which they are named.
  • My Executors are to [liquidate] all the residue of my personal estate and effects.
    After payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and the costs etc of my trustees, I give the proceeds to my nephew George Jenner, son of my late brother-in-law John Jenner, for his own use.
  • My funeral is to be plain and decent, without pall-bearers, hearse or coach.
    I am to be carried to the grave by six poor men of honest character, to each of whom my Executors are to give 5s and a pair of gloves.
    I give a hatband, scarf and gloves each to the Minister and Mourner, and to the Clerk a hatband and gloves.
    If my nephew George Jenner cannot attend as the Mourner, it is my wish that my friend Mr John Ireland will attend in his stead.
  • I appoint my friends the Rev'd George Cooke DD, late Fellow of Oriel College Oxford, and John Ireland of Oxford, Apothecary, as my Executors.

First Codicil 21 Apr 1804
  • In my will I have given £30 to my servant Mary Laight if she is living with me at my decease.
  • Now instead I give her £60 in consideration of her faithful services and attention.
    I also give her my large Bible and Common Prayer Book, all the wearing apparel of myself and my late wife, two china dishes in the parlour cupboard, the tea chest and tea spoons and one large silver spoon.
  • I give £5 to my servant Ann Wilson if she is living with me at my decease.
    If she has left my service I give her only £3.
  • I give my portfolio containing thirty-one upright drawings or views taken in or near Oxford, and all the other contents of that portfolio, to the Rev'd George Cooke DD, my Trustee and one of my Executors.
  • I give the large view or drawing of Christ Church and Merton Colleges, now placed over the fireplace in my parlour, to Martin Wall of the University of Oxford
  • I give my silver quart tankard to John Ireland of the City of Oxford, gentleman, one of my Executors.
  • In all other respects I confirm my will.

Second Codicil 23 Feb 1807
  • In my codicil dated 21 Apr 1804 I have given a conditional legacy to my then servant Ann Willson.
    Now I annul [the legacy] and declare that she is to have nothing.
  • In the same codicil I have given £60 to my servant Mary Laight instead of the £30 given to her by my will.
    Now instead I give her £105, to be paid in full, not liable to any duty.
  • I also give to Mary Laight a chest of drawers standing on the landing-place in the garret in my dwellinghouse, a large deal box on the same landing-place, the servant's bed, bedstead and furniture in the kitchen, also the tent bed, bedstead and furniture in the garret.
    Also a little mahogany table in the kitchen, a round table in the parlour, the grate, fender and fire-irons and coal-box in the parlour, the choice of six chairs and my great chair.
    Also the choice of a table in the dining-room and one looking-glass chosen by her.
  • In all other respects I confirm my will and codicil.

  • [If my sister is dead] my nephew John Cor’s Herrfeld is to have her £100 legacy.

  • My godson John Blofield, to whom I bequeathed £40, being now dead, that legacy is to be given to my housekeeper Mrs Mary Laight in addition to [her other legacies].

John Malchair I John Malchair of the City of Oxford Teacher of the Art of Drawing do make my last Will and Testm’t as follows In the first place I give and bequeath unto my Ex’ors hereinafter named the Sum of One hundred pounds In trust that they shall and will with all convenient speed after my decease remit and cause the same Sum to be paid to my Sister Odilia Herfelds? Widow now or lately living in the Street of Saint Severin at Cologne on the Rhine or in case of her death then
shall remit or cause the said Sum to be paid in equal portions to the surviving Children of the said Odelia Herfelds if there be more than one or if there be only one surviving then the whole Sum to that one provided and I do hereby declare that my said Executors shall not be answerable for any Loss accident or miscarriage that may happen in making that remittance I also give unto my Godson John Blowfield now or late of Queen Street Soho in the City of Westminster Son of the late Thomas Blowfield of the City of Oxford Carpenter the Sum of fforty pounds to be paid him within six Months after my decease I also give unto my Housekeeper Mary Laight the Sum of Thirty pounds in consideration of her faithful Services if she shall be living with me at my death to each of my Executors hereinafter named I give as a memorial of their kindness one Picture Print or Drawing to be chosen by them respectively in the order in which they are named And all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate and Effects which I hereby direct my Executors to convert into Money after payment of my Just Debts and ffuneral and Testamentary Expenses and the Costs and Charges of my Trustees which I hereby authorize them to retain I give and bequeath to my nephew George Jenner Son of my late Brother in Law John Jenner deceased to and for his own use It is my wish And I hereby direct that my ffuneral be plain and decent without Pall bearers Hearse or Coach and to be carried to the Grave by six poor Men of honest Character to each of whom I desire my Executors to give five shillings and a pair of Gloves and to the Minister and Mourner an Hatband Scarf and Gloves each and to the Clerk an Hatband and Gloves and it is also my wish that if my said Nephew George Jenner cannot attend as the Mourner then that my ffriend Mr John Ireland will attend in his stead And I do hereby appoint my ffriends the Rev'd George Cooke Doctor in Divinity late ffellow of Oriel College Oxford and the said John Ireland of Oxford Apothecary Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Seventh day of November 1801.
