  • My body is to be decently and privately buried in woollen in Weston Chancel.
  • I give my most dear mother the Lady Norris 100 guineas.
  • I give my dear, obliging and deserving wife Mary Norris £1500.
  • I give my sister Mrs Elizabeth Norreys an annuity of £100 pa for life, issuing out of the Manor of Weston on the Green and all my other lands, tenements etc in Oxon, payable by two equal payments at Lady Day and Michaelmas, beginning on the first such feast after my decease, and with full warrant to distrain if the money is not paid within 20 days.
  • I give my tenant Allen Ladyman of Weston an annuity of £20 pa for life, and my servant Robert Blea an annuity of £10 pa for life, both to be paid by equal payments at Lady Day and Michaelmas, beginning on the first such feast after my decease.
  • I give my sister Mrs Jane Harris of Winchester £2000.
  • I give my good friend and uncle Francis Clerk Esq of North? Weston £100.
  • I give my loving wife Mary Norreys, as well as the above £1500, all my plate and jewels and whatever ready money she has by her, my chariot, my coach and coach horses and the furniture of her own chamber and closet.
  • Subject to the above Annuities I give my nephew James Bertie, son of my sister Philadelphia Bertie deceased, and his heirs etc forever, the following property In Trust to pay my debts, funeral expenses and all my legacies and annuities:
    • My Manor and Lordship of Weston on the Green.
    • The Rectory or parsonage Impropriate of Weston, and the patronage and right of presentation to the Vicarage of Weston.
    • All my other lands, tenements and hereditaments in Oxon.
    • My Manor and Lordship of BRK Hampsted Norreys and my Manor and Lordship of BRK Yattendon with all their woods, underwoods with the ground and soil, royalties, courts, profits and perquisites of courts, waifs, estrays, goods and chattels of felons and of felons of themselves, weirs? easements, waters, watercourses, deodands, freeboods? commodities, franchises and appurtenances.
    • All my other lands, tenements or hereditaments in Hampsted Norreys, Bolthampsted? or Yattendon or elsewhere in Berks.
    • The Advowson and right of presentation to the parish church of Yattendon.
    • My Capital Messuage or farm at BRK Chillswell and all its lands, tenements and hereditaments, woods and underwoods, subject to my wife's life estate for life therein.
  • The better to enable him to perform my will, I give James Bertie all my ready money, plate, household stuff, utensils and furniture of my house and all my other goods and chattels, and appoint him sole Executor ... I revoke all former wills.

In the Name of God Amen
This is the last Will and Testament of me James Norris of Weston
on the Green in the County of Oxon Esq'r made published and declared
this ffourteenth day of December in the ffirst yeare of the Reigne of
our Soveraigne George by the grace of God of great Britain ffrance
and Ireland King &c Annoq' Dom'i 1714 ffirst I commend my Soul
into the hands of Almighty God by whose mercy I hope to be Saved
and my body to the Earth in hopes of a Joyfull Resurrection I
commit to be decently and privately buried in Woollen in Weston
Chancel And as to the worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless
me with I do hereby give and dispose thereof as follows Impr'is I
do hereby give and bequeath unto my most dear Mother the Lady
Norris the Sum'e of One hundred Guineas Item I give and bequeath
unto my dear obliging and deserving Wife Mary Norris the Sum'e
of ffifteen hundred pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my Sister
Mrs Elizabeth Norreys One yearly Annuity or Rent charge of one
hundred pounds per annum to be issueing out of All that the Mannor
or Lordship of Weston on the Green in the County of Oxon and out of
All other my Lands Tenements and Hereditaments in the said County
of Oxon to hold receive and take to her and her Assignes for and during
the Term of her naturall life And to be paid to her at Lady day and

Michaelmas by Two equall half yearly payments with full warrant
to distrain for the same in or of the said Mannors Lands Tenements
and premises aforesaid if the same be not paid within Twenty dayes
next after the said Two ffeasts dayes on the which the same is hereby
directed to be paid as aforesaid Item I do hereby give and bequeath to
my Tennant Allen Ladyman of Weston aforesaid one yearly Annuity
of Twenty pounds p'r annum for his life and to my Servant Robert
Blea one yearly Annuity of Ten pounds per annum for his life both
the two said last mentioned Annuityes to be paid to the said Allen
Ladyman and Robert Blea at the ffeasts of the Annunciac'on of the
blessed Virgin Mary and of St Michael the Archangell by even and
equall half yearly payments as well to my said Sister Elizabeth Norreys
as to the said Allen Ladyman and Robert Blea to be made on such
of the said Two ffeasts as shall be first and next after my decease

unto my Sister Mrs Jane Harris of Winchester the Sum'e of Two
Thousand pounds Item I do hereby give and bequeath unto my good
ffreind and Unkle ffrancis Clerk of North? weston Esq'r the Sum'e of One
hundred pounds Item I do give and bequeath unto my loving Wife
Mary Norreys over and above the ffifteen hundred pounds aforesaid
all my Plate and Jewells and what ready money she has by her for her
Self my Chariot my Coach and Coach horses and ffurniture of her
own Chamber and Closet And Subject to the Severall Rent Charges
and Annuities abovementioned I do hereby give and bequeath unto my
Nephew James Bertie Son of my Sister Philadelphia Bertie dec'ed
All that my Mannor and Lordshipp of Weston on the Green aforesaid
and also all that the Rectory or parsonage Impropriate of Weston
aforesaid And also the donation patronage and right of presentation
to the Vicaradge of Weston aforesaid And all other my Lands Tenements
and Hereditaments whatsoever Scituate lyeing and being in the
said County of Oxon And I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said
Nephew James Bertie All that my Mannors and Lordship of
Hampsted Norreys in the County of Berks and also all that my
Mannor and Lordship of Yattendon als Yattenden in the said County
of Berks together with all woods underwoods with the Ground and
Soyle thereof Royaltyes Courts Profits and Perquisites of Courts
Waifes Estrays Goods and Chattells of ffelons and of ffelons of themselves
Wairs? Easements Waters Watercourses Deodands ffreeboods? Com'odityes
ffranchises and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said Mannors and
premisses belonging or in any wise Appertaining or therewithal used
occupyed or enjoyed or reputed or taken as any part or parcell
thereof And all other my Lands Tenements or hereditaments whatsoever
in Hampsted Norreys or Bolthampsted? Yattenden als Yatenden
or elsewhere in the said County of Berks And also all that Advowson
donation and Right of Presentation to the parish Church of
Yattenden aforesaid And also all that my Capital Messuage
or ffarme of Chillswell in the said County of Berks and all Lands
Tenements and Hereditaments Woods and underwoods thereunto
belonging or appertaining Subject nevertheless to the Estate for life
which I have made to my Wife therein To have and to hold all and
every the said Mannors of Weston on the Green Hampsted Norreys
Yattenden als Yatenden Rectoryes Advowsons and all other the Lands

Tenements and Hereditaments and premisses before to him devised with
their and every of their Appurtenances to him the said James Bertie his Heires
and Assignes for ever Upon Trust nevertheless to pay and discharge All such
debts as I shall owe at the time of my decease and also all my ffuneral
expences and all the Legacyes Annuityes and Rent charges by this my Will
given and bequeathed for the due payment whereof I do hereby charge all
the said Mannors Lands and premisses hereby to him devised and then in
Trust for himself the said James Bertie his Heires and Assignes for
ever and the better to enable him the said James Bertie to perform this
my Will I do hereby give and bequeath unto him the said James Bertie
All my ready money Plate Householdstuff Utensills and ffurniture
of my house All other my goods and Chattells whatsoever not by this my
Will otherwise given and disposed of and do hereby make and constitute
him the said James Bertie Sole Executor of this my last Will and
Testament desiring and requiring him to see the same performed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof And I do hereby
revoke and make void all former Wills by me made and in Witness to
this my last Will and Testament I have hereunto set my hand and
Seale the day and year ffirst above written - James Norreys - Signed
