  • I give all my real and personal estate and effects to my wife Ann Painter for life.
  • At her decease (after payment of her debts etc) I give [all of it] to my son James Joseph Painter of Stokenchurch and his heirs etc for his own absolute benefit, the rest of my children having received benefits during my lifetime quite equal to what is left to James Joseph.

This is the last Will and Testament
of me John Painter of Stokenchurch in the County of Oxford Miller and
Farmer Whereby after payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary
expences I give devise and bequeath unto my Wife Ann Painter of Sto-
kenchurch in the County of Oxford all and every my real and personal
estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever of what nature tenure or
quality the same shall or may consist at the time of my decease
To hold the same and every part thereof unto the said Wife Ann
Painter during her life and at her decease after payment of her just
debts funeral and testamentary expences I give devise and bequeath
unto my Son James Joseph Painter of Stokenchurch in the County
of Oxford all and every my real and personal estate and effects
whatsoever or wheresoever of what nature tenure or quality the
same shall or may consist at the time of her decease To hold the
same and every part thereof unto my said Son James Joseph
Painter his heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely to
and for his own separate use benefit and disposal. the rest of my
children having received divers benefits during my life time equal
quite to that left to the said James Joseph Painter and I nomi-
nate constitute and appoint my said Son James Joseph Painter
also my Son Robert White Painter of Cookham in the County of
Berks Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revok-
ing and making void all former and other Will and Wills by me
at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be and contain
my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said John
Painter have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this
twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and fifty three /-/ John Painter (O) /-/ Signed sealed
and declared by the above named John Painter the Testator as and for
his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same
time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each
other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses /-/ John

Proved at London 15th Feb'y 1855 before the Worshipful George
Edward Hughes Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of James
Joseph Painter and Robert White Painter the Sons the executors to
whom adm’on was granted having been first sworn duly to administer
