... I James Perrott Esq of Northleigh ...
  • My body is to be interred ... within the aisle which I have lately built in the parish church of North Leigh with as much privacy as may be consistent with decency.
  • Whereas I have erected a monument in the said aisle: no Inscription is to be made on it until the death of my dear wife Anne Perrott, for whose sake alone and for a memorial of whose virtue and excellent goodness I erected it, intending that my Executor do as soon as possible after my wife’s decease cause such inscription to be made as he thinks may best testify her deserved character and the remembrance of so good a wife by an affectionate husband.
  • I give £6 pa forever to be divided amongst the poor as follows:
    • £3 pa to buy bread to be distributed by the churchwardens and overseers of the poor equally amongst such poor people in the parish church of North Leigh as frequent Divine Service there, or did so while able; five dozen of bread on every first Sunday in every month forever, beginning on the first Sunday in the month after my decease.
    • £3 pa to be laid out by my son Henry Perrott and his heirs etc in buying clothing etc for three such honest poor housekeepers of North Leigh, or their poor child(ren) under 12 living with them, as frequent Divine Service in North Leigh, or did so while able, to be distributed equally, one third to each [family], on 29 Sep yearly forever, beginning on the first 29 Sep after my decease.
My son Henry and his heirs etc shall have power to nominate the poor people to receive the clothing etc.
But no-one shall be nominated to receive part of the clothing etc who in the same year receives any share of the £3 pa or the 20s pa given to three poor people of North Leigh by the will of my honoured father.
    • I charge my copyhold close called Spicers Hern of about 7½ acres of assart lands in the tithing of Hailey in the Manor of Witney, which close I have recently surrendered to the use of my will, with the payment of the £6 pa
  • Whereas my daughter Amy Perrott, spinster deceased, gave £50 desiring the interest to be distributed equally amongst ten poor housekeepers of North Leigh at Christmas yearly forever, but none of them to partake of that charity for any two years together.
And whereas I have recently surrendered my copyhold close called Pickett Close in the tithing of Hailey to the use of my will:
Now (being disposed to have Amy's intention performed) I charge Pickett Close with the payment of 50s pa for the interest of the £50, to be distributed amongst ten such poor housekeepers of North Leigh as my son Henry and his heirs etc shall appoint on 24 Dec yearly forever.
But none of the poor housekeepers are to partake of this charity two years together.
  • The closes called Spicers Hern and Picket Close, charged as above, I give to my son Henry Perrott and his heirs forever, but neither my heirs nor any of my property other than those two closes shall ever be charged with the payment of the above £6 and 50s pa.

  • I give my dear wife 200 gns, all the furniture of her bedchamber and of the room within it, and such of my coach, chariot, coach-harness, coach-horses and other horses and cattle as she will accept and think convenient for her use.
  • I give her as much of my fuel, wood and coal, and as much of my malt, corn, hay and straw in my dwelling-house, outhouses, barns, yards, rickyards and backsides, as she thinks sufficient to serve her and her family, horses and cattle for six months (if it is available)
  • I give her all my plate and all my other household goods, to be disposed of by her amongst her children as and when she thinks fit, but to no-one else.
  • I give my son Thomas Perrott, Doctor of the Civil Laws, my lease of the Rectory of North Leigh to hold until Michaelmas next after my decease, and then I give the lease to my son Henry for the residue of my term, saving to my son Thomas the use of the barns, rick-yards and backsides of the Rectory until 25 Mar next after that Michaelmas for thrashing and disposing of the corn and straw therein.
I am sure that Henry will keep his promise to me in paying his brother Thomas £200 at my decease, upon the account of an exchange of Cozens’s Farm for Fifield Parsonage and Longworth estate, the exchange being £10 pa advantage to Henry.
  • I give my daughter Ann Perrott £1500 as her portion.
  • I give my daughter Sarah Perrott £1500 as her portion.

  • I give all my servants living with me at the time of my decease such legacies as I shall appoint for them in a written list.
  • I give £10 to such of the poor of North Leigh as my Executor thinks fit, £5 to be paid within one week after my funeral and £5 within six months.
  • I give my son Thomas my two leases (held from St John's College Oxford), one of BRK Fifield Rectory or Parsonage, the other of several closes in BRK Longworth.
  • Whereas by an indenture dated 18 Mar 1717 I have covenanted with Sir Robert Bancks Jenkinson and John Walker, Doctor in Physic, to stand seized of the messuages, lands, tenements etc in Longworth imentioned n the indenture for my own use for life, and after my decease to the use of my son Thomas and his heirs forever:
Now I confirm the indenture and give my son Thomas and his heirs the premises and all my messuages, lands, tenements etc in Longworth forever.
  • After my debts, legacies etc and funeral expenses are paid, I give all the residue of my goods, chattels and personal estate to my son Thomas Perrott whom I make sole Executor.
