  • I give my messuage etc in Bletchington with all its outhouses, buildings, backsides, gardens and the adjoining close to Richard Parratt, son of Humphry Parratt, and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give my wife Anne Parratt 50s pa for life (in lieu of her thirds), paid at Michaelmas and Lady Day by equal portions.
    I give her £5 more to be paid within two years after my decease if she lives so long, otherwise the £5 is to remain with my Executor.
    If she refuses to relinquish her thirds, my Executor is not to be charged with the 50s pa or the £5.
  • I give £10 to Mary Parratt, daughter of Humphry Parratt, to be paid within six months after my decease if she lives, otherwise [it] is to remain with my Executor.
  • I give £5 to Elizabeath Smith, daughter of Parnell Smith of Long Combe, to be paid within twelve months after my decease if she lives, otherwise [it] is to remaine with my Executor.
  • Elizabeath the wife of William Eden of Bletchington and their son John shall quietly and peacably possess and enjoy the dwelling house, backside, garden and hempland, recently in the hands of Frances Barnsdall, during both their lives, as shown in an Indenture.
    I also give Elizabeath Eden £5, to be paid within six months after my decease.
  • I give the poor of Bletchingdon £5 to be paid within one year afer my decease and spent for their benefit by the Overseers of the poor and Churchwardens.
  • I give all the residue of my goods and chattels, my debts, legacies and funeral expenses being paid, to Richard Parratt son of Humphry Parratt, whom I make sole Executor.
  • I make Thomas Judge and Richard Kunte of Bletchington Overseers, and give them 2s 6d each for their pains.
  • I wish £5? to be spent on my burial.

In the nam of God Amen the eighttene Day of June in the
fiftene yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god Kinge
of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland Defender of the faith &c Anno qe Dom 1640
I Mathew Parratt of Blechingdon in the County of Oxon husbanman being weake in body
but of good and perfitte memory thankes bee givne tow god doe make and ordaine this my last
will and testament in maner and forme following: first I bequeathe my soule unto the hands
of Allmightie god my maker and Jesus Christ my redemer and my body to bee buried in decent and
Christian buriall: Item I give and bequeathe unto Richard Parratt the sonne of Humphry Parratt
and tow his heires All that my Messauge or tenement w'th the appurtenances in Blechingdon
afore sayd togeather w'th all out houses buildings backesides gardnes and close adioyneing to the
same with the appurtenances to have and to hould the sayd Messuage and premisses w'th the appurte
nances unto the sayd Richard Parratt his heires and assignes for ever: Item I give and bequeath
to Anne Parratt my wife fiftie shillings of lawfull monye of England to bee payed unto her yearely
during her naturall life in leiu of her thirdes att the feastes of Saint Michaell Tharchangle
and the annunc'ac'on of the Virgine Mary by even and equall por'ons Item I give unto her more five
pounds to bee payd unto her within to yeares next after my decease if the sayd Anne my wife
shall soe lounge live and if not the sayd five pounds shall remaine to my Executor But if in
case shee shall refuse tou relinquishe her thirdes then my will and meaning is that my
Executor hereafter named shallnot bee charged or chargeable w'th the paymente of the paymente
of the sayd fiftie shillings yearely nor w'th the payment of the sayd five pounds bequeathed
unto her as afore sayd: Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Parratt the Daughter of Humphry
Parratt ten pounds to bee payd unto her w'thin six Mounthes next after my decease if the sayd
Mary shall soe lounge live or else to remaine to my Executor Item I give and bequeath unto
Elizabeath smith the daughter of Parnell smith of lounge coume in the county of oxon five pounds
of lawfull money to bee payed unto her w'thin twelve mounthes next after my decease if
the sayd Elizabeath shall soe lounge live otherwayes to remaine to my executor Item
my will and meaning is that Elizabeath that the wife of William Eden and John the
sonne of the fore sayd William and Elizabeath Eden shall quietly and peasable possese and
inioy duering both ther ther naturall lives all that dwelling house backeside garden and hempland
there unto belounging lately in the hands of ffrannces Barnsdall as by an Indenter more att
large is Expressed Item I further give and bequeath unto Elizabeath the wife of the
afore sayd William Eden of blechingdon five pounds of good and lawfull mony of England tow
to bee payd unto the afore sayd Elizabeath within six mounthes next after my decease: Item
I give and bequeath unto the poore of Blechingdon unto the afore sayd five pounds to bee payd within
one yeare next afer my decease and to bee putt out and bestowed to and for the best use
and benefitt of the sayd poore by the overseres of the poore and Church wardnes of the the same
parish All the residue of my goods chattells and moveable and unmoveable my debtes beeing
first payd my funerall expences discharged and these my legacyes fullfilled I houly give
unto the foresayd Richard Parratt sonne of the sayd Humphry Parratt whom I doe make sole
Executor of this my last will and testament and doe make Thomas Judge and Richard
kunte of Blechingdon afore sayd Over seeres of this my last will and testament to see the same
duly Executed and I doe give them for theire paines tow shillings six pence a peece in
witnesse whereof I have here unto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above writen
