  • My body is to be buried beside my wife in the churchyard of Our Lady of North Leigh.
  • I direct that 10 priests shall say or sing 10 masses and 10 dirges at the day of my burial, they having for their labours 8d apiece.
  • I direct my executors to give 20s to poor people in penny dole at my burial or at my month's mind.
  • To the mother church of Lincoln 4d
  • To the maintenance of the bells of the parish church of North Leigh 12d.
  • To the lights in the said church £6 weper[?]
  • I give my daughter’s son Nycolas Hynde £40 as follows: my executor shall give £10 to Thomas Elyot Esq for the use of Nicolas within one year after my decease, and £10 a year thereafter until £40 is fully paid.
  • I bequeath all my lands to my son Thomas Rydley for life, and after his decease to his son Richard for life, and after his decease to the heirs male of Thomas Rydley the elder, and in default of such issue to my own next heirs.
  • I make my son Thomas Rydley executor
  • I make my overseers Sir Symon Harecourte, knight, and Thomas Elyott Esq
  • All the residue of my goods, my debts and duties paid, I give to my son Thomas Rydley, so that he will do some charitable deeds in remembrance of my soul

In the name of Almyghty god iij persons in on god I Thomas Rydley the elder of Northlye in the County of Oxford husbandman hole & perfite of body & mynde make this my last Wyll & testament the xiiijth day of January the xvjth yere of Kyng Harry the viijth [1525] Revokyng All other Wyllys & testamentes before this tyme made by me.
First I bequeth my sowle in to the handes of Allmyghty god my body to be buryed by my Wiff in the churcheyarde of o'r lady of Northlye Item I wyll that x prestes do sey or syng at the day of my burying x masses & x dirges they haveng for ther labo'rs of my goods viijd a pece

Item I bequeth All my landes to Thomas Rydley my son to have to hym terme of his liffe naturall And after his deceasse I wyll that Richard his son have the sayd lands to hym terme of his liffe And after his deceasse to the heyres male of the said Thomas Rydley the elder And for defawte of suche yssewe to the next heires of me the said Thomas Rydley the elder.
Item I make my executo'r Thomas Rydley my son to admynyster & dispose my goods according to this my wyll as he will therefor Answer before god.
Item I make overseer of this my said wyll S'r Symon Hareco'rte knyght & Thomas Elyott Esquyer.
Item all the Residew of my goodes not bequethid in this Wyll my detts & dutyes payd I gyve & bequeth after my deceasse to my son Thomas Rydley so that he have in Remembrance my sowle w't sum dedes of charyte by his discretion.
This wyll was wryten by me Thomas Elyott Esquyer the day & yere above wrytyn in the presence of John Collys & William Lydeyarde gentylman w't others

Probatum fuit presens test’ coram nobis Joh[ann]ne Landy etc vj'to die mensis Martij Anno dm’ Mill[esi]imo Quingen'mo xxix'o et commisa adm[ini]stracone executori supranominat’ in forma Juris iurat etc
Solvit de Fine xxs ex covenco’ne

The present will was proved before us John Landy 6th day of March in the year of our Lord 1529. Administration committed to the abovenamed executors … sworn etc.
Paid as fine 20 shillings [for fraud?].
