  • I give my daughter Anne £120 to be paid within one year after my decease
  • I give Anne all the bedding, bed and other goods in the chamber wherein she lies in my house in Coscote.
  • I give my daughter Jane £60 to be paid her within one year and a half after my decease
  • I give Jane my second best cow.
  • I give to the poor of the parish of East Hagbourne, West Hagbourne and Coscote 20s to be pad within one year after my decease
  • I give to my daughter Williams and her three children 5s apiece and to my daughter Keate 5s to be paid within one year after my decease
  • Whereas I stand bound to my Uncle Robert Sawyer and John Carter in a bond of £200 conditioned for the payment of £100 in trust for the use of my daughter Williams and her daughter; and whereas my son-in-law Mr John Keate together with one Henry Bunce and his surety stand bound to me in the like sum; my will is that the £100 in the hands of John Keate shall be paid in satisfaction of the £100 wherein I stand engaged. And my desire is that a Bond shall be given by John Keate to the uses aforesaid, with such surety with him as my Executors together with the Trustee(s) for her and her daughter shall approve, and that my Bond be taken up.
  • My son Robert Sawyer shall immediately after my decease enter and enjoy all my land and estate in West Hagbourne.
  • I bequeath to my loving nephew Joseph Sawyer of Yattendon clerk, Bartholomew Harris of Ducklington gent, Robert Tirrold of West Hagbourne yeoman and Richard Sawyer yeoman my house and all my lands, tenements and hereditaments etc in Coscote until from the rents etc they have paid all my debts, legacies and funeral expenses; my personal estate in cattle, corn etc being first sold by them.
  • All which goods, cattle, chattels, corn, utensils of household and husbandry and all my other goods not already bequeathed I give to Joseph Sawyer, Bartholomew Harris, Robert Tyrrold and Richard Sawyer whom I make my Executors
  • I desire my loving cousin James Yateman of Sandford gent and my loving uncle Peter Sawyer of Blewbury yeoman to be overseers
  • [Permission for Executors to reimburse their expenses]
  • If my son Robert or his Executors etc pays my debts and legacies and the expenses of my Executors within three years, then all my estate real and personal shall revert to him as if I had given it to him by this will.

In the Name of God Amen
I Richard Sawyer of Coskett in the County of Berks gent being weake but of good understandinge
and memorye doe make and ordayne this my last Will in manner followinge First I bequeath my
Soule to God And my Body to the earth to bee buryed in such decent manner as to my Executors here
after named shall seeme meete And touching my worldly goods and estate I dispose them in
manner followinge I give to my daughter Anne the summe of one hundred and twenty pounds
of lawfull money to bee payd her within one yeare after my decease And I doe likewise give and
bequeath unto her All the bedding bedd and other goods in the Chamber wherein shee lyes
in my house in Coskett aforesaid Item I give unto my daughter Jane the summe of Threescore
pounds of like lawfull money to bee payd her within one yeare and a halfe after my decease
And I give to my said daughter Jane my second best Cowe Item I give to the poore of the parish
of East Hagborne, West Hagborne and Coskett the summe of Twenty shillinges to bee payd
within one yeare after my decease Item I give to my daughter Williams and her Three
Children the summe of ffive shillings apeece and to my daughter Keate ffive shillings
to bee payd within one yeare after my decease And where I stand bound to my Uncle Robert
Sawyer and John Carter in a Bond of Two hundred pounds condic'oned for the payment of
one hundred poundes in trust for the use of my daughter Williams and her daughter and
where my sonne in Lawe Mr John Keate together with one Henry Bunce and his surety
stand bound to mee in the like summe My will and meaning is That the said one hundred
pounds in the hands of the said John Keate shalbe payd in satisfaction of the said one
hundred pounds wherein I stand engaged as aforesaid And my desire is That Bond bee
given by the said John Keate to the uses aforesaid with such surety or suretyes with him
as my Executors hereafter named together with the Trustee or Trustees for her and
her daughter shall approove of and that my Bond bee taken upp And my will and
meaning is that my sonne Robert Sawyer shall immediately after my decease enter
have hold and enioy to my owne use All my Land and estate in Westhagborne Lastly I
doe devise and bequeath unto my loveing Nephewe Joseph Sawyer of Yattendon in the
County aforesaid Clerke Bartholomew Harris of Ducklington gent Robert Tirrold
of West Hagborne yeoman and Richard Sawyer of [blank] yeoman my Howse
And all and singuler my Lands Tennements and hereditaments in Coskett above
menc'oned withall and singuler their and every of their appurtenances for soe
long tyme and terme untill they shall have with the rents Issues and proffitts thereof
raysed satisfyed and payd all such summe and summes of money as I shall owe and
bee indebted at the tyme of my decease And all such legacyes as I have heerin before
bequeathed and my funerall expences My personall Estate in Cattle Corne and
other goods being first disposed by them to and for the payment of the said funerall expences
debts and legacies All which said goods Cattle Chattles Corne Utensills of househould and
husbandrye whatsoever and All other my goods of what kinde soever not herein before be
queathed I give devise and bequeath to the said Joseph Sawyer Bartholomew Harris
Robert Tyrrold and Richard Sawyer whom of this my last Will and Testament I make my
full and whole Executors in Trust to and for the end and purpose that my debts bee payd
and satisfyed and my legacyes hereby given satisfyed and discharged And I doe hereby
desire my loveing Cousen James Yateman of Sandford gent and my loving Uncle Peter
Sawyer of Blewberry yeoman Overseers To see the same performed And my Will is
That my Executors shall satisfye themselves out of my reall or personall Estate All such

Summe or Summes of money as they shall any wayes pay or disburse for or by reason of their under
takeing of my said Executorshippe in suites or otherwise howsoever and shall not bee daminfyed in
the least thereby And it is my Will desire and meaninge That if my said sonne Robert his Executors
or Administrators shall pay and discharge all such debts as shalbe be owing at the tyme of my decease
and all such legacyes as are herein by mee bequeathed and such Charges as my Executors have
beene at at any tyme within the space of three yeares That then all the said Estate by mee here
in bequeathed reall and personall shall revert come and bee to him in as full and ample man
ner as if I had devised and given the same unto him by this my last Will and Testament In
Wittnesse whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the sixteenth day of October in
the Twelfth yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of
God King of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland Defender of the ffayth &c Annoq' D'ni One
