  • My body is to be buried in the churchyard of Lewknor near my father.
  • I give the mother church of Oxon 4d.
  • To the poor of Lewknor 5s and to the repairs of the church of Lewknor 2s.
  • I give my daughters Elenor, Juliane and Agnes £6 13s 4d each, to be paid at age 18 or earlier marriage.
    If any of them die, her share goes to the survivors.
    If my wife is now pregnant I also give that child £6 13s 4d, and if he/she dies his/her share is to be divided among the rest of my living children.
  • I give all my godchildren 4d each.
  • I give my goddaughter Elenor Scolles the best ewe lamb.
  • I give William Lucy? one lamb.
  • I give the rest of my goods, my funeral paid for, to my wife Elenor whom I make sole executrix.
  • I make Mr Thomas Mytton? Richard Rosles? Thomas Rowlles and John Kurye? my supervisors.
  • If my wife remarries she is to be bound to my overseers, in such a sum as they think suitable, for the payment of the childrens' portions.
    If her intended husband refuses to be bound, my overseers are immediately to sell some of my goods etc to the value of 40 marks, to pay to the surviving children.

In the name of god Amen the xxviij'th daie of June Anno D'ni 1572 I Will'm Scolles of
lewknor In the County of Oxon beinge sicke of bodye but of p'fecte remem
brance god be praysed doth make and ordeine my last will and Testament in
maner and fourme ffollowinge ffirst I gyve my soule to allmightye god my
maker and redemer and my bodye to be buried in the churche yearde of
lewkenor nighe unto my ffather Allso I gyve unto the mother churche of
Oxon iiijd Allso to the poore of the parishe of lewkenor fyve shillings and
to the reparac'ons of the churche of lewkenor two shillings Allso I gyve and
bequeathe to Elenor Juliane and Agnes my daughters everye of them
sixe poundes thirtene shillings foure pence to be payed unto them at the
tyme of theire mariages yf they marrye before they come to the age
of eightene yeares or ells when they come to the full age of eightene
yeares And yf anye of theme shall chaunce to Departe this present
worlde then hir parte to remayne to the rest of them lyvinge And yf my
wyffe be w'th childe at this present I gyve unto that childe allso sixe poundes
thirtene shillings foure pence And yf yt fortune that childe to Dye then that
parte to be devided unto the rest of my children then lyvinge Allso I
gyve and bequeath to everye of my godchildren iiijd Allso I gyve to Elenor

shall thinke good for the trewe payment of the children porc'ons
these beinge wytnes Christopher Allred Clarke and Christopher
Scolles? w'th others. Allso yf the saide partye that shall marrye
w'th the saide Elenor refuse to be bounde accordinge to the appoint
ment of the above named or the more parte of them then I will
that the overseers doo make present sale of suche goodes and
Cattalls as was the saide Wyllyams or suche as shalbe in theire
places at that present to the valewe of fortye marks to make
present payment to the children or to so manye of them as shalbe
then lyvinge
