  • My debts and funeral expenses are to be paid.
  • I give my wife Mary all the furniture of my best room and parlour and all my plate, to be at her absolute disposal
  • I give her £50 to be paid immediately after my decease.
  • I give to Job Partlett Sr of Witney, blanket-weaver, and John Biggers of Witney, schoolmaster, the following properties In Trust:
    • My messuages or tenements, workshops, buildings, gardens etc where I now dwell near the Bridge in Witney.
    • My messuage or tenement, workshop, garden etc which I bought from Andrew Hartshorn in West End in Hailey.
    • My enclosed grounds etc which I bought from Mr John Witts near Middle Field in Hailey.
    In Trust to permit my wife Mary to receive the rents etc for life, and after her decease:
    • To permit my son Joseph Sheppard to receive the rents etc of [the property] near the Bridge in Witney for life.
    • After the decease of the survivor of my wife and Joseph I give [that property] to Joseph's lawful heirs of his body and their heirs forever.
    • I give Joseph [the property] near Middle Field in Hailey, and all my interest therein, to him and his heirs etc forever.
    • I give my daughter Hannah Bolton [the property] in West End in Hailey, and all my interest therein, to her and her heirs etc forever.
  • I give my daughter Hannah Bolton £200 to be paid within twelve months after my decease
  • I give my daughter Mary Calcutt my messuages or tenements, gardens etc which I bought from John Smith in West End in Witney, and all my interest therein, for life.
    After her decease I give [that property] to my son-in-law William Calcutt for life.
    After the decease of the survivor of my daughter Mary and my son-in-law William , I give [the property nto my grandson Henry Calcutt, son of my daughter Mary, and to his heirs etc forever, but charged with the payment of £20 each to William Calcutt, Elizabeth Calcutt, Mary Calcutt and Hannah Calcutt, other children of my daughter Mary, to be paid (after the decease of the survivor of my daughter Mary and my son-in-law William) at age 21.
  • I give my daughter Mary Calcutt £100 to be paid within one month after my decease
  • I give my sister Mary Sheppard my share of the messuages etc near the Bridge in Witney, now in the occupation of Robert Maddock or his undertenants, for life.
    After her decease I give [the property] to my son Joseph and his heirs etc forever.
  • I give my sister Mary Sheppard £3 to be paid immediately after my decease
  • My Executor shall lay out £5 in bread and divide it equally among all my spinners.within two months after my decease.
  • I give my brother-in-law Henry Freeman a suit of mourning.
  • All the residue of my goods, stock, chattels, cattle, money, securities for money and personal estate I give to my son Joseph Sheppard, charged with the payment of the above legacies.
  • My Executor shall cause a decent tomb to be put upon my grave as soon as is convenient after my decease.
  • I appoint my son Joseph Sheppard sole Executor.

In the Name of God Amen I Jason Sheppard of Witney in the County of Oxford Blankettweaver Do make ordain publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say,
First I will that all my Just Debts and Funeral Expences shall be paid and discharged
Also I give and bequeath unto Mary my Wife all the Furniture of my Best room and Parlour and all my plate to be at her Free and absolute disposal
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife Mary the sum of Fifty pounds to be paid unto my said Wife immediately after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named. Also I give devise and bequeath unto Job Partlett the Elder of Witney in the County of Oxford Blankettweaver and John Biggers of Witney aforesaid Schoolmaster All those my several Messuages or Tenements Workshops Buildings Gardens and Premises wherein I now dwell situate and being near the Bridge in Witney aforesaid And all that my Messuage or Tenement Workshop Garden and Premises with the Appurtenances which I purchased of Andrew Hartshorn situate and being in West end in the Tything of Hailey and parish of Witney aforesaid And all those my Inclosed Grounds and Premises which I purchased of Mr John Witts situate and being near Middle Field in the Tything of Hailey and Parish of Witney aforesaid In trust that they the said Job Partlett and John Biggers their Heirs and Assigns do and shall immediately after my decease permitt and suffer my said Wife Mary to hold and enjoy and to receive and take the rents Issues and profits thereof and of every part thereof for and during the term of her natural Life and from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife Then In trust that they the said Job Partlett and John Biggers their Heirs and Assigns do and shall permitt and suffer my son Joseph Sheppard to hold and enjoy and to receive and take the rents Issues and profits of all those my said several Messuages or Tenements Workshops Buildings Gardens and Premises situate and being near the Bridge in Witney aforesaid for and during the term of his Natural Life and from and immediately after the decease of the survivor of them my said Wife and my said son Joseph Sheppard then I give devise and bequeath the said several Messuages or Tenements Workshops Buildings Gardens and Premises last before mentioned unto the Heirs of the Body of my said son Joseph Sheppard lawfully begotten & to the Heirs of such issue for ever.
Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said son Joseph Sheppard immediately after the decease of my said Wife All those my said Inclosed Grounds and premises situate and being near Middlefield in the Tything of Hailey and parish of Witney aforesaid and all my Estate and Interest therein To hold the same unto my said son Joseph Sheppard his Heirs and Assigns for ever.
Also I give devise and Bequeath immediately after the decease of my said wife unto my Daughter Hannah Bolton All that my said Messuage or Tenement Workshop Garden and Premises with the appurtenances situate and being in West end in the Tything of Hailey and parish of Witney aforesaid and all my Estate and Interest therein To hold the same unto my said Daughter Hannah Bolton her Heirs and Assigns for ever.
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Hannah Bolton the sum of Two Hundred pounds to be paid to her my said Daughter Hannah Bolton by my Executor hereinafter named within twelve Months next after my decease
Also I give Devise and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Calcutt All and singular my several Messuages or Tenements Gardens and Premises which I purchased of John Smith situate and being in West end in the parish of Witney aforesaid and all my Estate and Interest therein To hold the same unto my said Daughter Mary Calcutt for and during the term of her Natural Life and from and immediately after the decease of my said Daughter Mary Calcutt I give devise and bequeath all and singular the said last mentioned several Messuages or Tenements Gardens and Premises unto my son in law William Calcutt To hold the same unto my said son in law William Calcutt for and during the term of his Natural Life and from and immediately after the decease of the survivor of them my said Daughter Mary Calcutt and my said son in law William Calcutt I give devise and bequeath the said last mentioned several Messuages or Tenements Gardens and Premises unto my Grandson Henry Calcutt son of my said Daughter Mary Calcutt To hold the same unto my said Grandson Henry Calcutt his Heirs and Assigns for ever charged and Chargeable Nevertheless with the payment of the sum of Twenty pounds each unto William Calcutt Elizabeth Calcutt Mary Calcutt and Hannah Calcutt other Children of my said Daughter Mary Calcutt to be paid to them severally and respectively when and as soon after the decease of the survivor of them my said Daughter Mary Calcutt and my said son in Law William Calcutt as they shall severally and respectively attain their several and respective Ages of Twenty one yeares or unto so many of them as shall be then living to whom I do hereby severally give and bequeath the same
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Mary Calcutt the sum of One hundred pounds to be paid to her my said Daughter Mary Calcutt by my Executor hereinafter named within one Month next after my decease
Also I give Devise and bequeath unto my Sister Mary Sheppard All that my part or share of the Messuages or tenements and Premises situate and being near the Bridge in Witney aforesaid now in the Tenure or Occupation of Robert Maddock or his Undertenants To hold the same unto my said Sister Mary Sheppard for and during the term of her Natural Life
And from and immediately after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same unto my said son Joseph Sheppard To hold the same unto my said son Joseph Sheppard his heirs and Assigns for ever.
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Sister Mary Sheppard the sum of three pounds to be paid to her my said Sister Mary Sheppard by my Executor hereinafter named immediately after my decease
Also I will that my Executor hereinafter named do and Shall within two Months next after my decease lay out the sum of Five pounds in Bread and divide the same equally unto and among all my Spinners
Also I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law Henry Freeman a suit of Mourning
All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods stock Chattels cattle money securitys for Money and personal Estate whatsoever not hereinbefore by me disposed off I give and bequeath unto my said son Joseph Sheppard charged and chargeable nevertheless with the payment of the several and respective Legacies or sums of money hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed to the several and respective persons before mentioned
Also I will that my Executor hereinafter named do and shall as soon as Conveniently may be after my decease cause a decent Tomb to be put upon my grave
And I do hereby constitute and appoint my said son Joseph Sheppard sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament
In witness whereof I the said Jason Sheppard have to this my last Will and Testament contained in four sheets of paper to each Sheet sett my Hand and seal this Twenty second day of February In the year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Eighty five Jason Sheppard
Signed Sealed published and declared by the before named Testator Jason Sheppard as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and sight have subscribed our names as Witnesses hereto Alexander French Wm Waine Thomas Thorley

Joseph Shepperd the Son and sole executor in this Will named was sworn to the truth thereof as usual etc. Before me T Cox Surr.

This will was proved at Oxford on the thirtieth day of May in the Year of our Lord 1785 before the Rev'd John Cox Clerk Bachelor of Laws Surrogate of the Rev'd Henry Ford Clerk Master of Arts Vicar General Official Principal and Commissary of the Right Rev'd Father in God John by divine permission Lord Bishop of Oxford lawfully constituted by the Oath of Joseph Shepperd the Son and sole Executor therein named to whom adm[inistra]con was granted being first sworn duly to administer
