  • I give my house and land etc bought from my cousin Thomas Rymell, with all relevant deeds, to my son James Stilgoe and his heirs forever.
  • I also give £40 to my son James, to be paid within 18 months after my decease.
  • I give 12d each to my daughter Joane Shepherd and all her children.
  • I give 12d apiece to Anne Turner and Elizabeth Turner, daughters of Edward Turner.
  • I give the house and land etc bought from my cousin George Waterman, also the house etc bought from my cousins Edward Aris, Nicholas Aris, Anne Aris and Rebekah Aris, with all relevant deeds, to my son Hugh Stilgoe on condition that no woman may have any Jointure in them, nor that they may be mortgaged in any way, but to remain entirely to him and the heirs male of the Stilgoes forever.
  • I give 20s each to the children of my sons Hugh Stilgoe and James Stilgoe.
  • I give all the rest of my goods and chattels to my son Hugh Stilgoe whom I make sole Executor, he paying my debts, legacies and funeral expenses.
  • I appoint my loving friends Mr John Apletree and Tymothy Smith as Overseers, and give them 6d each.

In the name of God Amen This Seaventh day of August In the One & Twentieth yeare of his Ma'ties
Reigne Annoqu' D'ni 1669 I Zachary Stilgoe of Dadington in the County of Oxon yeoman, being
weak in body but of good & p'fect memory blessed be God for it, & calling to remembrance the uncertaine
estate of this transitory life & that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call,
doe make, constitute, ordaine & declare this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following
revoking & annulling by these p'sents all & every Testam't & Testam'ts Will & Wills heretofore by me
made & declared either by word or by writing, & this to be taken only for my last Will & Testam't & none
other. And first being penitent & sorry from the bottom of my heart for my sins past, most humbly
desiring forgivness for ye same I give & committ my Soul unto Almighty God my saviour & redeemer
in whom, & by the merits of Jesus Christ I trust & believe assuredly to be saved & to have full remission
& forgivness of all my sins & that my soul with my body at ye generall day of resurrection shall arise
againe w'th ioy, & through the merits of Christs death possess & inheritt the kingdome of heaven prepared
for his elect & chosen, & my body to be buryed at the discreasion of my Executor hereafter mentioned,
And now for the settleing of my Temporall estate & such goods Chattels & debts as it hath pleased God
to bestow of me I doe order give & dispose the same in manner & forme following (That is to say)
Inprimis I give & bequeath unto my son James Stilgoe All that my house & Land & all
Appurt'nces whatsoever belonging to the same, w'ch I formerly bought & purchased of my Cousin
Thomas Rymell, with all deeds & writings conserning the same, to be to him my said son James
Stilgoe & to his heires for ever, Item I also give & bequeath more unto my said son James Stilgoe
fforty pounds of good & lawfull English money, to be paid unto him within a yeare & half next after
my decease, Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Joane Shepherd & to all her Children
Twelvpence apiece of good & lawfull English money, Item I give & bequeath unto Anne Turner &
Elizabeth Turner daughters of Edward Turner, Twelvpence apiece of like money, Item I give &
bequeath unto my son Hugh Stilgoe, All that house & Land & App't'nces whatsoever that I bought &
purchased of my Cousin George Waterman, And also that house & appurt'nces therunto belonging
w'ch I bought & purchased of my Cousins Edward Aris, Nicholas Aris, Anne Aris & Rebekah Aris, with
all deeds & writings conserning the same, upon this Condition & it is my desire that noe woman may
not have any Joyncture in it, or that they may not be any way mortgaged to any, but wholly to remaine
to him the said Hugh Stilgoe & to the heires male of the Stilgoes forever Item I give & bequeath
unto my son Hugh Stilgoes Children Twenty shillings apiece of lawfull English money, to each of them
Item I give & bequeath to my son James Stilgoes Children Twenty shillings apiece of like money to each
of them All the rest of my goods & Chattels not formerly disposed off I give & bequeath more unto
my son Hugh Stilgoe whome I make my sole Executor of this my last Will & Testam't he paying
my debts & Legacies & discharging my funerall expences. I appoint my loving ffriends Mr John
Apletree & Tymothy Smith overseers of this my last will, to whom I give Sixpence apiece, In
wittness wherof I the s'd Zachary Stilgoe have hereunto sett my hand & seale the day & yeare first
above written
