  • My body is to be buried in the church of Stanton where my Executor thinks best.
  • My debts are to be paid first.
  • I give £6 13s 4d to the poor of Stanton St John where I dwell.
  • The following legacies are to be paid by equal parts, half of each within a year after my decease, the other half sometime in the following year:
    • £40 to my eldest son Josiah White.
    • £20 to my son John White.
    • £20 each to my eldest daughter Mary Terry and my daughter Martha Cooke.
    • £10 to my daughter Elizabeth Gardner.
  • The following sums are to be paid within a year after my decease:
    • 10s to my sister Avis Summers to buy a ring.
    • 40s to my sister Alice Cannon.
    • £10 to St Mary College in Oxford (commonly called New College) to be spent on two pieces of plate for the use of the fellows and students of the college.
  • My debts and the above legacies being first paid, I give all the rest of my goods and chattels to my son Steven White whom I make sole Executor, allowing 40s each for their pains to my two sons-in-law John Terry and Thomas Gardner, whom I appoint as overseers.

In the Name of God Amen. I John White of Stanton St Johns in the com' of
Oxford Gentleman, touched with the consideration of mine owne mortality, and not knowing whether god will
be pleased to give me so good use of mine understanding, & memory hereafter, as (his name be blessed for it)
I now have in this time of mine health; do make this my last Will, and Testament in manner, & forme followinge
ffirst I Commend my soule into the handes of my gracious Redeemer Jesus Christ, by whose satisfaction, and
merits only I trust assuredly to be saved: My body I appoint to be buried in the parish church of Stanto' aforesaid
in such place as mine executor shall thinke convenient. As for my worldly estate, & goods, I dispose of them as
followeth. In primis my desire, and will is, that first, and before all my debts be discharged. Item I give &
bequeath to the poore of the parish of Stanton St Johns, where I dwell, sixe pounds, thirteene shillings; fouer
pence. Item I give, and bequeath unto mine eldest sonne Josiah White fourty pounds. Item I give, &
bequeath unto my sonne John White twenty pounds. Item I give, and bequeath unto mine eldest daughter
Mary Terry twenty pounds. Item I give, & bequeath unto my daughter Martha Cooke twenty pounds.
Item I give, & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Gardner ten pounds. All which sum'es I appoint
to be payd by even portions, the one half within one yeare after my decease, the other half somtime the
yeare following after that. Item I give, and bequeath unto my sister Avis Sum'ers ten shillings to be
layd out in a ring: Item I give & bequeath unto my sister Alice Cannon fourty shillings. Item I give &
bequeath unto St Mary Colledge in Oxford Com'only called New Colledge ten pounds to be bestowed in
two pieces of plate, for the use of the fellowes, & students in the same Colledge: Which last sum'es my will
is to have payed entirely within one yeare after my decease All the rest of my goods, & chattells,
moveable, & unmoveable, my debts, & legacies before mentioned being discharged; I give unto my sonne
Steven White, whom I make, ordaine, & constitute my sole executor of this my last will, & Testament
Allowing only unto my two sons in law John Terry, & Thomas Gardner, whom I desire to be, and by
these pr'sents designe, & appoint overseers of this my sayd will, & Testament, for their paines herein, fourty
shillings a piece. In Witnes whereof I the sayd John White have putt to my hand, & seale unto these
pr'sents, dated the xxxth day of September, In the yeare of the Raigne of o'r Soveraigne Lord James
by the grace of God of England, ffrance, & Ireland, king, defender of the faith &c, the fourtee'th, and
of Scotland the fiftieth. Anno Domini. 1616.
